  • Tf this has to due with free speech? Minds.com continues to operate, the government hasn’t censored them.

  • If liking something makes you a bro then everyone here is a bro. Bluesky is good and tons of people like it. They have a lot of neat ideas so much so many fedi devs are looking to bring some of those ideas to the fedi. Anyways to answer your question the answer is no. The closest you get are Misskey & Forkeys antenna feature and Friendica & Hubzilla’s channels feature.

  • There’s honestly nothing wrong with any of those options including 2. I get people see algorithm and recommendation and have aneurisms but this space isn’t looking to harm anyone intentionally. If there’s any space we should trust with any kind of algorithms it’s this space as there’s not the same incentives that Big Social has. As long as users can consent and have control.

But to answer your question it would take some hybrid search on top of an aggregator that is explicitly public and respects people’s flags. I know Mastodon is working on a discover service

  • Do you mind linking your script?

  • How is mastodon healthier? Please provide examples. Healthier for whom? As there’s an extensive list of people harmed that absolutely do not find mastodon “healthy” let alone “healthier” particularly Black and Brown folks. Bluesky defaults to the same way feeds are presented as Mastodon does, so your statement is false

  • That’s actually a misconception. This blogpost touches on that https://privacy.thenexus.today/black-twitter-quoting-and-white-toxicity-on-mastodon/ This discusses studies https://absolutelymaybe.plos.org/2023/01/12/quote-tweeting-over-30-studies-dispel-some-myths/?ref=privacy.thenexus.today Also, the Fediverse largely has already have this feature on other platforms and there’s been no mention of toxicity levels increasing. In fact Mastodon has a feature that is actually a known tool for toxicity and harassment which is the PM (Private Mention) feature. I’ve yet to see people call for it to be removed but that’s mostly due to only Black and Brown folks complaining about how they’re harassed via PMs. Others typically dismiss their claims.

  • The statement about comment history is inconsiderate. People absolutely care about their content. I don’t have to know nor care for their reasons why but it is important to users.

  • Correct. You have access controls to your POD thus the data within it. As long as there’s an app built for a platform compatible with the protocols ActivityPods is compatible with, which are currently ActivityPub and Solid protocols it will work. It’s not just microblogging and not only compatible with Mastodon. So you can host your POD which would be best or even use a provider which you still have access controls. It’s like renting a locker or storage pod

  • All it would require is someone making an app on top of it the same way the devs built Mastopod. They built it on top of SemApps which makes it relatively easy to built apps on top of ActivityPods

  • That’s not true it’s compatible with anything running ActivityPub. It currently has build a Mastodon client as a demo that’s why right now you can use it with Mastodon. They built Mastopod in a week. Part of the pitch it showing devs how relatively simple it is to build apps on top of it. So if someone builds a Pixelfed, Lemmy etc app then you absolutely can use it

  • It’s because of how people people on mastodon freak out over privacy and consent. That’s why he wrote that article as the expectations and views of a large number of users are fundamentally against what actually happens

  • It’s not just for mastodon users, that’s selling it short

  • It’s multiple factors but boils down to them being easier for non-techie people to access. It’s also a culture issue. Bluesky culture is more like Mastodon than not but it is more diverse and shifts younger. Lots of gatekeepers and harassers ruined it for would be mastodon users particularly Black and Brown folk that were harassed out of the space. One of the biggest minority ran instances was shut down due to overwhelming harassment. People also don’t want to be preached to nor want to be told how to use their own damn social account and be told they’re using it wrong. Most people legit just wanted Twitter without Musk.

  • This is weird on multiple levels, Bluesky code is Open Source, it’s federated and no one gives a damn about it being a PBC. It’s mostly about culture why people have gone to Bluesky and Threads

  • On Bluesky most of the algorithms are made by users, that’s another plus

  • I would like to see more creators and more people from the sports world. But, the subcultures of Lemmy and Mastodon won’t allow for that

  • So weird that no one mentioned https://micro.blog/ Which only after Mastodon was the second platform to adopt ActivityPub.

  • This makes me think of Fediverse client SoraSns. It used on-device ML and has algorithmic choice. It’s awesome that everything is done on-device
