  • It’s a fresh wound, and those hurt until they heal. You need to give yourself time. This will sound sexist, but if you were a guy, I’d say you need a good bartender. Not saying the same wouldn’t work for a woman, but being a single woman in a bar kind of opens you up to the kind of attention it sounds like you don’t need, or want, any more of. Still, in lieu of a good friend, just having someone who can hear you vent your pain can be healthy (hence my recommendation for a good bartender - when I was being a detached listener was considered part of the job).

When you’re not venting/working through the pain, try to work on you. Work towards liking/loving yourself.

  • “If you believe you’re playing well because you’re getting laid, or because you’re not getting laid, or because you wear women’s underwear [or have a lucky sock] than you are!”

  • The path that said:

STOP! DO NOT ENTER! IMMENSE DANGER AHEAD, NOT OUTLET! YOU ACTUALLY TRIED THIS PATH NOT LONG AGO AND NOPED BACK OUT THE FIRST CHANCE YOU GOT!

In other words, the dumbest path we could’ve chosen.

  • Was talking about this a few weeks ago. Then we spent a week on the Gulf coast of TX, and the rental car collected a pretty good number of bugs. Not as much as when I was younger, but more than I remember seeing in a long time.

  • So, Russia starts a war and attacks non-military targets time after time. Ukraine attacks Russian bombers, and Putin says Russia “must respond.” Trumps says, “okie dokie!”

Art of the deal, right there. Guy’s a fucking master.

  • Lots of great explanations, but something I didn’t see, or missed:

    • If it’s free, how do the companies making it stay in business? Not all Linux variants, or distributions/distros (there are a lot), are backed up by a company. The ones that are offer an enterprise version (like Microsoft sells Windows Server) for a price. Since “Linux” refers to the core of the OS, and its license dictates that it must be offered for free, you can get these enterprise versions for free. They charge for updates, levels of support, and some in-house developed solutions that work well with their distributed.
    • If the source code is open and maintained by a community for free, how is that better that something made by professionals at a company? This is a huge topic, but to boil it down: First, the projects responsible for Linux distros and most of the utilities found within are run quite competently. It’s quite difficult for some random person to insert janky code. Second, most of the people contributing to these projects are often professional coders in their “day job,” or their “day job” includes contributing & maintaining this project. Third, when some random person finds a bug or exploit in these utilities and operating systems, the process for reporting and resolving it is pretty transparent compared to what you’ll find with for-profit software companies. Because the code isn’t proprietary, processes involved in auditing it tend to be open to the public.
  • I was maybe around 12 or 13, I think, maybe a little younger. I had a recurring nightmare for about a month where a guy would break into the house I was in (so if I was at a sleepover, he broke into THAT house!) and started brutally killing everyone but me. Not especially unique, but the guy’s head was a perfect chrome sphere, so I could see my reflection in it along with the distorted reflections of his actions. Rough few weeks, there.

Way later, in my early 30s I think, my GF at the time was sleeping next to me, and I dreamt that I was having an argument with my mom about having to kill my GF! Weird thing was neither one of us wanted to do it, but we both agreed it had to be done and that I had to do it - no idea why. This was really strange b/c my mom is the opposite of overbearing, and never had a problem with my GF; so this nightmare version was not at all her.

  • Someone should explain to him why NATO exists. Then point to his own “truths” calling Putin “crazy*.”

    • Not crazy, just an authoritarian doing what everyone who isn’t fanboying over him has known he’s wanted to do since forever because he’s said he wants to do it on multiple occasions: reunite the SSRs, through force if necessary. Maybe if Russia, with their history of staying in/prolonging/winning(?) wars by feeding really stupid numbers of people into the meat grinder (see also: current conflict in Ukraine), and a maddeningly growing number of other countries, wasn’t a threat to democracy in Europe, we wouldn’t need NATO. Crazy, I know.
