  • I absolutely disagree with that statement.

The Liberals are going to bring more of the same. What we need is a strong coalition with both the Liberals and NDP to push the Liberals to work for the little guy for once.

I'm tired of having a party that does nothing but work for corporations, who can't think outside the box and do nothing for the working class.

  • That's true. My main point of reference is France because I go there often. But generally they have pretty good living conditions with tons of benefits in Europe.

Then I go to places like Panama, where people aren't rich but they get by pretty well. The average salary there is 25 500 USD / year. (2 130 USD / month) and the average cost of living is around 1 500/ month. That's not bad.

  • Everything Canadian is stupid expensive.

When you travel someplace else, you realize how cheap groceries and restaurants are elsewhere.

Edit: whoa whoa! I'm not saying to not buy Canadian! I'm just saying our stuff here is super expensive. Our living expenses are high in Canada compared to other places.

Traveling is expensive (Trains, planes, etc) even within Canada. Internet, phone, mobile is super expensive, even clothes are expensive. Our Canadian corporations have a near monopoly and they know it, and they're taking full advantage of it to rip us off.

Our housing might not be as expensive as other places but when you check the wages, you quickly realize with the ratio that the cost of living is very high here.

But I'm putting my money where my mouth is I'm buying canadian regardless. I'm just very cautious where I spend my money. Instead of Loblaws for example, I go to local markets. I buy clothes from small local businesses. Etc. And for everything else where I don't have a choice but to buy from a big corp, then I'd rather pick a Canadian one over any other. And for my last resort, I'd prefer European products over American.

  • Yeah.... but much, much later in life. And only because now they have years of experience on the job can only now request better salaries. In their 40's! Half their life has gone by and only now are they getting slightly more comfortable financially.

But they're not as well off as you'd expect. Many have abandoned having kids and raising a family. Many are still priced out of the housing market. Many are still making sacrifices.

Those that are better off are most likely from more privileged families.

  • I don't care if houses plummet in value. You want to invest? You gotta assume the risk, just like in the stock market. And peppery prices are way over inflated anyway.

And if we limit who can buy these properties to Canadians and PRs and limit the number of properties per person you won't have a hoarding problem. And everyone will have better access to housing.

  • Same shit different PM.

These people don't have the fucking cojones to do the right thing and just make foreign ownership of residential homes illegal. And make it illegal to have investment vehicles based on residential properties like ETFs. And straight up make it illegal for a publicly traded company to own residential property. And limit ownership of residential properties per person. And ban AirBnB and the like.

But nooooo. Just make it even cheaper for the already wealthy people to buy even more peppery.

  • Welp. A small inconvenience is the price to pay if you want privacy from the authorities.

I keep telling friends and family to switch browsers, switch text messengers, even switch social networks and they just complain that it's all just inconveniences. But then they complain about their privacy.

    C'mon.

  • Bazzite is an atomic Fedora distro. Unless you like running everything in containers and having to upgrade everything all at once in a while and not having control over your system files, I don't recommend it. It's great for handheld devices because it kind of behaves like an Android device in a way. But personally I don't like that on a PC where I want more control.

And Garuda is a rolling release Arch distro with a lot of bleeding edge (read not well tested and unstable) packages. While it's tailored for gaming, unless you want to spend your time reading the Arch Wiki for troubleshooting your problems and learn, I don't recommend it.
