  • Not from Canonical.

  • I wouldn't deny or argue that. I was under the impression that it just had more pitfalls than other sources these days, which led to it no longer being the go-to source it once was.

  • Yeah, but it felt good, didn't it?

    I use Arch, btw.

    This power can be yours, comrade.

  • I don't think TPB is strictly recommended for anything anymore, I could be out of the loop on that.

  • I can't comment on this, really. I've only played the first Witcher, and I thought it was charming, an opinion that many people seem to find incomprehensible. I tried getting into Witcher 2 and the world just would not hold my interest long enough for me to get any momentum. I haven't played Witcher 3 and despite all the praise it gets, the fact that I'm playing a predefined character continually dampens my interest.

    Blistering hot take, but if I don't have pretty excessive control over my character I don't consider it to be a 'true' RPG. I don't bandy this around with elitist intent, I just find myself measuring games in the genre by their narrative chops when the bar to entry is seemingly down to game mechanics (see: Mass Effect, Red Dead, Deus Ex - Incredible games in the RPG genre, but I feel like I do not get to define my own Role to Play whatsoever).

  • But in addition, it felt like your character didn’t have a personality, they just had skills and things they were good at. Compared to four, where you can bring up your dead spouse and child and your prewar knowledge pretty regularly, for example.

    This is the problem for folks like myself, who got to spend time with New Vegas when it was new. Your character is given to you, and you must play that role no matter how little you care. NV allows me to have a very specific conception of who my character is, right down to which lines I choose to deliver sarcastically, and I can express that character in nearly every interaction because I'm not tied to a wife and child I had all of 2.5 minutes to develop an emotional attachment to.

  • This is a great step forward. I'm unsure how we should handle voting but I do want to express my support for the week-long opportunity to vote on important matters, and the recording of votes in a transparent and publicly-auditable fashion. I do think there should be a practical maximum to the number of topics that come to a vote weekly, I think more than 2-3 would quickly become unmanageable for everyone.

  • Yeah, I expected to be left to my own devices on this, but I figured the community is small enough that I should try to start a discussion where I see the opportunity for one. Ultimately I ended up learning how to make an extension named Stylus override the font family and size on the website. I find a lighter and smaller font does wonders for readability. The width isn't really a problem on it's own - I didn't realize how much I had the website zoomed out just to address the font problem, and it's very comfortable at 100-110% standard width.

    In case anyone wants to follow my footsteps, my Stylus rule is very simple and easily modified for other websites.

    @-moz-document url-prefix("https://sh.itjust.works/") {

    *{

    font-family: b612;

    font-size: small;

    }

    }

    Unfortunately, I can't get the editor here to play nice with code blocks, but I think you can infer the correct indentation. My font of choice is b612, which was designed for readability in use on aircraft displays. Use your preferred font and modify the value of font-size as needed.

  • A while back I went out of my way to acquire some used Xbox 360 games and fire up the old beast. I actually played Red Dead Redemption for the first time about a year ago. Some of those games I straight up haven't touched, because I no longer have said console set up (and have been foraying into console emulation, which is constantly getting better)

  • That's what the second monitor is for.

    Which means the actual answer is miss the sudo prompt for a password and time out the update...

  • Personally, I feel this depends on the nature of the instance in question. Though new to this, I only intend to view content I subscribe to, so I'm not bothered by communities that are focused on commerce as long as it stays inside those silos.

    Additionally, this depends on the type of content being offered. I am actively excited to see a community where people advertise their hand-made, artisan, or small-business-made goods. I see the utility in a community where people share opportunities to save money on items they were already looking to purchase. I have no interest in another space for drivel I do not want or need from e-tailers like Amazon to be peddled.

    addendum: Upon further review of the terminology in play, I'm not sure if an entire instance is the preferred route. A series of well-defined communities are perhaps a better choice?
