  • Each chat on telegram holds a history of shared media, which is separated into tabs for media (pictures and videos), files (any other files, including uncompressed images), links (every shared link, probably the most useful one), music and so on.

It's really handy if you remember you've sent someone a link to an article and don't want to scroll through 5 months of messages.

  • Sadly I'm in the same boat. I've been trying to switch to Matrix, but telegram is so much better in terms of features. I really miss the shared media and links functionality.

  • Do we really need excuses for pirating media?

I pirate movies because I think digital access to them is overpriced, goes to the copyright holder instead of the creators, it's convenient and most importantly because I can.

I can't pirate going to the cinema, nor can I afford to build my own, therefore I gladly pay to have a seat and enjoy a movie there.

Edit: I thought this may be relevant to the movies example I gave. I don't think movie studios, giving nothing back to society after massive profits are the ones we should debate the morals of stealing with.

  • Years ago I moved to Linux and one of the reasons was to not spend as much time gaming. Nowadays if I wanted to do the same I would have to move to BSD.

  • Pray tell, good sir or madam, might I inquire if you, in all your noble magnificence, can lay claim to a distinguished position within the hallowed ranks of the illustrious landed gentry of Reddit?

  • You're absolutely right.

Yeah they are fantastic with new apps and phones.

I think that's mostly because most commercial apps have fantastic ui and ux.

  • It's so encouraging to hear so many pro Firefox opinions lately. Then I remember I'm logged into the pirate instance of a federated platform and anti-corporate sentiment is probably as high as it gets.

Sadly most younger people haven't even heard of Firefox.

  • If this is just for the fun of it I would try to run these services inside a virtual machine and just screen capture them. Never tried it but I don't see a reason why it won't work.

  • I don't agree that the vast majority of the people left there are bootlickers.

Most of the people left there seem to be uninterested in technology from the arts and crafts related subs and that's what's really missing in Lemmy/kbin.

There is no /c/woodwoking, /c/printmaking or /c/embroidery and the people that usually visit these don't really care about the underlying tech. Most of the time they just want to share their crafts with their community and things to just work.

  • Wouldn't such automated crossposting result in some really spammy communities without actual people filtering them?

I think reddit can afford to have so many posts in these massive subs because they have a massive community that engages with the posts by up/down voting them.
