Some excellent advice, this is a really great post!

Personally I've opted to stick with DDG for now, its some what centred around privacy, whilst thats probably not much when it comes to tracking I at least appreciate the illusion. Search works good enough about 90% of the time and it allows you to easily switch off the AI BS so you can search the web like a normal search engine.

I've used others like Ecosia which I thought was not terrible but not great either. I used searchxng for a while and the results were always much more interesting but I would find it to be a bit more unreliable. I also tried Gibiru which I found to be one of the better privacy central search engines, it was fairly reliable but also had a good balance of unique results too.

Kagi, I tried this out but there is something about this search engine which I just don't like. I get the whole idea of paying for it because they don't sell your data but something about it just feels shady and a bit like a cash grab on people who are eager for a privacy focused situation but don't want to think about it too hard.

Is this similar to the blinding stew?

As with many things, I think the answer is somewhere in the middle.

You have to act in your own self interest at times otherwise no one is going to prioritise your interests. But at the same time you should at times prioritise other peoples interests so that they will do the same in turn, I love the saying, "treat others how you would like to be treated"

That said, if you only ever prioritise others over yourself, at some points this will be a detriment to you.

However, just because you might try and strike the balance of maintaining your own self interest in tandem with those you care about, doesn't mean you'll always strike the right balance or not accidentally prioritise yourself at the detriment of someone else, we are only human after all.

Compared of what is to come yes! But I get how you feel, things have been in decline for a long time but this is definitely going to be the darkest chapter yet.

Reddit removed access to the API and broke all the great third party apps and features which the community designed. Reddit is still a community but its not free to decide how things are governed or what features are or are not allowed.

Reddit turned into exactly the same as every other social media and lost what was truly good about it.

100% there is a reason you need kidneys to be able to drink it. The older I get and the fact I don't drink makes this seem almost insane to me that drinking is as popular as it is.
