I've been pretty happy with it as my casual web search browser, putting all my social media on a different browser. And it's in F-Droid, so that always feels good.
I'm being told Winnie the Pooh references are racist? Is there confusion that the identification is the yellow skin rather than the facial expression? I'm almost certain that meme is talking about how his face looks like Winnie the Pooh, right?
It hadn't really occurred to me to seriously ask where an American could leave to and become a citizen. I've got a degree in Information Systems and I work I.T., which I would think would be relatively valuable somewhere.
That's actually a fair point. I've seen it in the UI but I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it seems like there's communities to moderate and curate and you can simply enable them to moderate your feed, if I'm understanding it right. If so, it sounds like a really good way to compartmentalize that stuff to allow users to sort it themselves.
Motherfucker, it's social media. You have to get social with people. Make a fucking friend, right?
Like, I fixed that shit by following George Takei and Mark Hamill and some reporters. The algo shouldn't be finding things for you. You should be finding people.
Yeah, scratching my head just the same. My only problem with Mastodon is the same I had with StumbleUpon. It's way too good about putting neat people and conversations in front of me and I feel bad not rising to the occasion more when I just want to deadbrain.
It just feels more like Classic Twitter, and I can imagine some users like that vibe, despite Mastodon perhaps having the better technicals to keep social media federated. I use both and they have their audience. There are services that allow crossposting too, so I've got a BlueSky instance out there copying my Mastodon into that feed. Just to reach out.
The interest your domestic and foreign corporate social media platforms have in you are VASTLY different. It's naive to equivocate them. Yes, TikTok should get "banned", which will just be pulling the app from the app store and likely still available as a web app maybe through a VPN. They're just going to create more friction in getting access.
Instead of advocating for spyware, perhaps we should be highlighting open alternatives?
Unfortunately, I'm keeping mine to make a pipeline from there to actual content on Mastodon or BlueSky. But I basically put a URL in my bio and push a photo once a week.
I decided I was going to discontinue using Meta products except to put out an occasional Instagram photo, pushed to Facebook, to tell...people I don't even talk to anymore, and for good reason...that I was alive and a sight of what I was doing. I discontinued my old Facebook profile and made a new one only for this purpose.
Because Facebook kind of sees me as a new user, I'm able to see content I wasn't able to before. And fuck, that place feels like some weird scam and bot flea market.
I hope it's soon to die but who knows if it'll transform into some unmasked arm of the government for surveillance.
SteamOS is where I hang a LOT of faith now. Just, like, generally.
Here's hoping this is the beginning of a freer world from the personal technology standpoint.
I love my Steam Deck. I'm browsing the Fediverse on it right now. Desktop mode is a bit of that unpolished Linux experience you can get but it's really not bad at all. I mean, I fucking love it!
