The difference is I would leave the door open for them to come back to reason, maybe even give them the benefit of the doubt. But the people purposely manipulating then are, I think, beyond forgiveness.

You're 100% entitled (and right) to feel that way. But there are a lot of lies these people have been fed, often from birth, about for example white supremacy etc. that only education can really erase. Education is withheld by the same liars that profit from the hatred they whip up.
Now I'm not advocating for the softly, softly approach with them, I'm all for punching Nazis, and it's ultimately up to the individual what to believe. But these drones aren't the right target, it's the monsters that made them that way and hide behind them, the people in power advocating for e.g. religion and ethnonationalism to increase their power and profits. They are the root cause. And their first victims are these ignorant sheep forming a human shield around them. If I were to explain how much contempt I have for those people this would be a massive text wall that probably breaks Lemmy TOS.

James O'Brien isn't my favourite talking head, but I do like his idea of having contempt for the conmen and compassion for the conned. These people have swallowed a lot of big lies and the fault is with the liars.

That's great I love it. I do the opposite, I like to give banal items overly technical names. Chair=orthogonal spinal support unit. Hammer=non-calibrated adjustment appliance, etc.

I'm not usually that guy but this seems to be the thread for it. Initialisms and acronyms are both types of abbreviation, where you pronounce acronyms as a word (NASA) and initialisms as individual letters (FBI).
I've had meetings at work over this. I had to draw a flow chart.

Upper-class British used to 'drop the h' on words with a french root to show off their education. Historic had a silent H but hawk did not, for example.
Side note: H has a silent H, it's "aitch" not "haitch".

Being pro Jew is different to being anti Nazi. Jews are just one of a multitude of peoples who can be targeted as out groups for fascists. A perfect example is what's happening in Israel. A genocide, perpetrated by Jews. It doesn't matter who the targeted group is. What matters is nobody should be ganged up on in the way that Jews were by the Nazis. Not Arabs, not Muslims, not Christians. Not men not women not trans. Not blacks, not the left nor the right. Nobody should be treated like that. Ever. Again. I think it's just an assumption based on the mode of society at that time in history. If it was built in the 12th century it was built by what we would now consider slaves. In the 1100s the land was divided into fiefs and the lord of that land considered the people who lived and worked on the land as part of that land: serfs. Unless this bridge was an exception to the rule, then serfs would have undertaken all the labour that got it built.
