  • We moved into a place here that's right across the street from a major hospital. It's a tower next to a busy '40x'-style roadway near an Ell train and a double cargo rail line with a partially-secured crossing. "You okay with trains?", they asked. We were fools!

All day we're exposed to fire, police, ambulance, subway bong-bongs, train 'q' whistles, air rescue and traffic.

But it's not bad. We were above the 12th floor and facing away from train, metro and highway, and the air rescue's route past our place was almost at our window so it was always cool.

The only thing we couldn't cope with - and this will out me - was the double-pane windows were no match to the one train guy whose 'q' was an absolute by-the-book whistle and it seemed he was standing on it for a full minute sometimes.

    ...at 0300 .

    Nightly.

    We hate that guy.

We moved a year ago - after 5 years there ! - to a new place that our revised building code says should have an AC and it does. We're much happier despite paying like $4/sqft/mo in rent. It's got triple-pane windows and that would make allll the difference.

I promise you can cope with loud noise. It's not ideal, but better windows help, as does concrete construction.

  • A friend was running electrical for studio shoots on the news. He couldn't make a go of it either, as gaffing is grunt work no one respects unless and until the dalai lama is visiting and trips over a power lead.

  • Pay-for-service is the Hallmark of conservative governments. Your tax dollars aren't used to help you unless something trickles down from the tax breaks to the wealthy.

People tend not to notice when Ontario or Saskatchewan govs do the same thing, as Drug Fraud is busy sounding tough for the sound bytes and the other con govs keep their heads down.

  • suppose

    Supposed.

let their emotions cast their votes[.] Conservatives aren’t much better but we would’ve likely seen a different change of approach on how things are [run].

No. We would have seen the cons capitulate completely and invite our new king. What part of everything the cons have done over 40nyears gives a different impression?

    NDP

Had no chance of winning even a minority. And they won't, as long as we need to focus on not getting conservatives driving our country into the dirt like they've done to our cousins in America.

It's so tedious to repeat this.

  • The US has extremely strict and aware water safety protocols. It would take just 1 whistleblower to [take down] this operation.

Had. HAD. The US has fired many/most of its inspectors.

75% of American drinking water requires treatment for one thing or another. One of those treatments is supplied by a single vendor out of a single plant in a flood-prone area. Apparently only recently did it receive federal staffing to improve security. This is only one of the many weak links in a supply chain with now absolutely zero oversight.

    I wish I was kidding.

  • Even in Canada, where mental health is still a value-add for most of us and not a right even under our current system, we are offered a fund with some jobs to use for either physiotherapy or mental health, and it's a limited fund.

Give us a choice, and 10/10 times we will prioritize being able to walk and move and sleep effectively over feeling good about it.
