  • That's not anywhere close to anything he said.

He was perfectly happy to pay reasonable pricing for API access or to pass through ads if Reddit included them as part of the API.

His issue was that Reddit's pricing was obscenely more than they generate per user, functionally made it impossible for developers to pass the costs on to the users even if they wanted to, dropped it on him with minimal warning after very recent statements that they had every intention of leaving API access alone, and then repeatedly fucking publicly lied about him when he had the audacity to tell his paying customers what was going on in the very near future.

  • It's going to take time for meaningful AR apps to exist, because this is the first device even capable of testing it in a functional manner on.

But ARKit is already out there and extremely capable on iPhone. The Vision Pro will be able to do way more than the phone due to the field of view and freeing your hands.

  • Obviously that's not OK.

But in all seriousness, isn't that the growth we want from people? He didn't just recognize that it was fucked up and changed. He also publicly acknowledged that he used to be that person and that that person was fucked up.

  • The entire point of word of mouth is that it isn't marketing. It's genuine information that's valuable to other people.

People being paid to fake word of mouth has already massively corrupted the whole thing, but your version would be way worse and completely destroy any integrity actual human interaction has.

  • Get a smart light. Schedule it to turn on before your alarm. The best is gradual over 30-60 minutes, ending at full brightness, but just turning it on halfway five minutes before your alarm is also way better than nothing.

  • I'm guessing most/all of the processing of power for the components is happening on the brick, and that the pins are individual power per component and whatever signals are needed back. You won't be able to just replace the brick with third party ones because it's more than just a battery. I could easily see third party packs with a dock-like cutout for the brick to feel like one piece though. It wouldn't be hard to do.

  • I've never found an acceptable substitute for their nacho cheese sauce (sure it's probably basically plastic. But it's plastic I crave) or the chalupa shells. Nothing is close to either of those.

I'm a big quesarito fan, but I'm basically happy with my own of that.

  • The article isn't a lot better. Some whining about "it could have been USB-C" (I'm pretty sure it couldn't and that the whole point of the external battery pack is that most of the power management for the individual components is happening on the battery to save weight on the headset), some whining that it's insane to plug that box into another battery, very little of substance.

  • What are you talking about?

Despite the fact that GPS trackers without restrictions literally already existed, are unconditionally legal and legitimate to have, and were readily available to bad actors, they heavily limited the functionality out of the gate to limit the benefit to malicious use cases.
