  • I don't want all these fancy schmancy features. I'm very happy with foot in its current form. The only additional feature I would like is ligature support, but otherwise foot already has the features I want in a terminal emulator, and more that are optional for me (e.g. sixel support; although I do use sixels for my lf previewer, it is not necessary for me). I also don't want my terminal emulator to have tiling, because rivertile does that for me, or whatever your window tiler is. Same for tabs. You can use i3 tabs, sway tabs, Hyprland groups, etc instead of having tabs in your terminal emulator.

  • That kind of data access is generally included under security not privacy (which is more about telemetry), but obviously with a state threat model privacy and security can become blurred, and that kind of data access is of concern if you are at risk of having devices seized by the state.

  • That would be a security issue, not a privacy issue. Maybe that was what RelativeArea0 meant but if so I think that confused people because "privacy" implies somehow corpos/the state is spying on you through Lineage

  • None that would "break me" if I didn't have them, but I spend the vast majority of my free time on my computer (by choice, I have friends and outside activities I can go to if I want), and whenever I've had to be away from it that's always been the toughest part.

  • It's still prohibitively expensive to buy AC units in the first place though. Vast majority of homes do not have AC pre-installed.

  • I spoof my browser (Librewolf) as Firefox for privacy and I don't encounter issues from not reporting my user agent as Chrome/Chromium. I think it's pretty uncommon for a website to not work on Firefox, so I don't see how this is necessary. The Chrome Mask extension is meant to be used on a per-site basis.

  • Which netherlands servers are working for you? I just tried literally all the wireguard ones and none of them worked.

  • What's the benefit of Grayjay over NewPipe, except for the fact that Grayjay supports other video platforms too?

  • I found that switching my VPN server allowed FreeTube to work for me. I'm on Mullvad's South African servers atm, which are quite slow. If anyone knows of any unblocked Mullvad servers that are faster, lmk, but those were the first ones I found that you can use FreeTube with.

  • I prefer to do it clean and manually transfer files, because I usually don't want a copy paste of my previous setup. For files that are just, for lack of a better way of putting it, personal storage (ie the files that are not dotfiles in my home directory, eg pictures and documents etc), they are on a Nextcloud.

  • I assume they mean that this Lemmy is part of their fake persona, so maybe links to another social media account they use for this persona, or an email address, or the personal details they mention in their comments matches with their fake persona's personal life and not their real personal life. But yeah seems like overkill if your threat model is only your employer, unless you're employed by some military intelligence agency, in which case it's probably not enough.

  • Yes, I do this plenty. I have some SIMs I continue to pay for in cash (pay as you go) so I keep having access to the phone number, and it's not easily tieable to my identity (ie you'd figure out who it was probably through watching CCTV of me buying it which seems like quite a lot of effort, so good enough for people with lower threat models).

I don't know where you are but in terms of selecting a service or phone, I would just walk into a local shop and see what they have on offer. I can't imagine prices would vary that wildly between shops.

Edit: also no need to buy a whole new phone if you don't have a state threat model and just want to make it harder to track you for eg data mining corpos. You can just swap out the sim in your normal phone to receive texts then put your regular sim back in afterwards. Or if you have a dual sim tray. You could also anonymously buy an esim so it doesn't take up a physical sim slot.

  • What Firefox sync compatible browser are people switching to now? I would use something like Vanadium but i want to sync with my desktop browser with firefox sync.

  • You haven't mentioned if there are any ethical concerns with this new meat; e.g. environmental cost of the production process, what kind of human labour is required to create it, who is providing that labour and under what conditions are they working.

Provided I had no ethical concerns with it, sure, but a lot of modern innovations tend to have these issues and I assume lab-grown meat would have these issues too.

Edit: Also, I'm opposed to animal captivity, so if there's an ongoing need to collect samples from captive livestock then no, I wouldn't. If it's a "collect it once then it keeps reproducing from the lab samples forever" type of thing then sure.

  • I feel the opposite just because I rarely find clothes that fit me well in person, whereas online they can have a broader stock. The sizing is not necessarily an issue because I know what my size is, and I'm hesitant to buy from online stores without a size guide (though my guess is usually right). If it has a size guide I just measure myself to check it's in line with their sizing.

  • Act to change it and be at peace mentally knowing that you have dedicated your life to the struggle and you have done all you can.

  • Yep, I was referring to that. You can stick someone else's SIM in your phone and log into their signal account if they've not set a Signal PIN. You don't see message history but new messages to that person will go to you.

  • What makes you use bitmaps as a system font?

I like the aesthetic of bitmaps. Personal preference
