  • Democrats have way more leverage than they're willing to use. The GOP is as fractured as ever and they have the house with a razor thin margin. Now is exactly the time to play hardball. The GOP will likely need their votes to do anything.

But instead I foresee Democrats making weak ass concessions at every turn because "we can't risk having the government shutdown!?!?"

  • Don't you see? They've earned it by being in Congress since the 80s and doing nothing but dismantling the government for kick backs. Now let them retire in office in peace, it's a lot to ask an 80 year old to put up a fight.

The Senate: the only tax payer funded nursing home that is suitably staffed.

  • They've already done a trial run of that. Look up the Joe Arpaio death camps. ICE already has detention centers and the Trump admin is trying to figure out how to ensure states have enough chemicals to continue executions.

Trumpers are also already calling every undocumented worker a violent criminal/rapist/pedophile/etc. We are honestly at a 1 + 1 = 2 for the admin. The real only hope is that this trump admin ends up backstabbing each other like the last one did and it falls apart into total dysfunction.

  • This is generally going to be less a doctor problem and more a hospital admin problem.

Hospitals try and employ the fewest doctors possible to save money, they schedule doctors so they have 5 minutes per patient, and they pack the schedules as dense as possible to maximize the number of cases a doctor is handling.

Any disruption here causes a delay. A patient showing up late, having questions, or the doctor needing to shit. It all adds up to the fail system.

There are simple fixes here like extending the doctors appointments beyond the average required time and hiring now doctors, but that costs money and doesn't optimize profit for the shareholders.

  • It could be that, it's more likely that this never passes/or is ratified and is effectively a Benghazi or hunter Biden trope that plays well on Fox News.

My bigger fear is that Trump just runs for a 3rd term anyways because who'd stop him? The supreme Court will vote 6:3 that their hands are tied any they can't keep him off the ballot. And if he's elected, they'll rule 6:3 that "well, the Constitution says we can't do this, but it'd go against the will of the people and would be hard to unwind so we won't do anything"

  • Yeah, the problem (imo) isn't lossy v lossless. It's that the supported codecs are part of the Bluetooth standard and they were developed in like the 90s.

There are far better codecs out there and we can't use them without incompatible extensions on Bluetooth.

  • I'm honestly shocked the SC took up the case. Congress clearly has the authority to regulate businesses doing interstate commerce (like tiktok). I think the law is dumb china hawkery, but I also think there's nothing unconstitutional about it. Congress could shutdown nearly any tech business they like for whatever reason they like.

  • They've gone up. And it's easy to see why. We have a minimum wage that hasn't been increased in decades and the current model of corporate efficiency is understaffing and union busting.

A huge portion of the population is cash strapped with the only job opportunities being poverty wages.

    Desperate people commit crimes.

  • "Democracy is in danger, so I'm going to run a campaign which specifically and exclusively caters to the Nazis that put us in danger rather than spend an ounce of time appealing to the base"

"Democracy is in danger, so when my internal polls show I'm going to get creamed this election, I'm going to stay in and tell the world I'm sundowning"

"Democracy is in danger, so I'm going to spend the next year sending billions to a fascist nation committing genocide despite 70% of Americans opposition and 90% of my base hating that move"

Fuck Biden and the DNC for putting us in this position. When a fascist rose, y'all spent your time jacking each other off about the importance of legacy. Your legacy is ashes and a public that despises you.

  • There are simply fine lines. One problem I've seen is ND once diagnosed using their ND diagnosis as a crutch rather than a tool to understand and work with themselves.

Certainly there's a level of "This person is ND and will never behave in a NT way" that society needs to accept and get over. But on the flip side, there are certainly ND people that will use it as an excuse to be an asshole rather than looking for tools to minimize the impact both on them and others.

I wear and need glasses. I'd be an asshole if I drove without them even though I have a medical condition that makes it hard for me to see without glasses. A ND diagnosis doesn't mean that no rules need apply, it means that a struggle in life will be figuring out the best way to work around them.

  • Wysiwygs were all the rage in the late 90s early 00s with a promise that the hard part of development was actually just doing the layout.

Tools like frontpage have been tricking incredulous entrepreneurs that programming is easy since at least then.

  • In an era where people, right and left, are loudly cheering on a guy that allegedly murdered a CEO, this idiot advisor thinks the direction we need to go is defunding Medicare and further privatization of government functions.

This jackass wants Democrats to be a conservative party to respond to the existing conservative party. He literally wants to do the southern strategy again.

  • So let's be really fucking clear here on what Vivek and Musk want. It isn't more immigration. They want disposable tech workers that they can ship back to their countries of origin when they misbehave. They want the power dynamic they have over H1Bs that they don't have over US citizens.

What Musk and Vivek can't find isn't "motivated" americans. They can't find cheap american tech workers who have to take abuse or else they get deported.

This is, BTW, why right wingers focus so heavily on border control but not employment enforcement. You could end 90% of undocumented workers today if you penalized businesses found employing them. And it's real fucking easy to find those businesses. Go to just about any farm in the US.

The reason for boosting ICE funding is so a business owner can turn to their undocumented employees and say "If you don't fall in line, I'll call ICE and deport your ass". This allows them to issue all sorts of abuse at their employees that they can't get away with for US citizens.

This is why open borders or easy paths to citizenship is important.

  • Every single step that Luigi took, right before shooting the ceo, was legal. Everything the CEO and his company did to their customers is legal.

I'm all for changing the legal system in any way that would make it harder for unwell people to get guns or insurance CEOs to stop murdering and maming their subscribers through denials. We don't have the political will to change any of that so excusing me for not shedding tears over this CEO's death.

There was a literal mass shooting at a school the same day. I feel way worse for those kids.

Being against the death penalty and bemused at conservative political consequences is not hypocrisy. Maybe stop being angry at "the left" for not shedding tears and instead propose any change that would have prevented this.
