  • I don't have this much faith. What lost gore the election is the fact that it was a terribly close election that the supreme court could swing one way or another (and they swung it for bush). If this is a close election for trump and there's 1 or 2 cases that would make him win, I definitely see the supreme court swinging in his favor. This is quite obvious if you look at the recent case that granted him full immunity. The SC is more than willing to bend of over backwards if it furthers rightwing ideals.

As for what the house/senate can do to swing the case, that loophole was mostly closed after the 2020 election. There's not the same room that trump was trying to exploit to steal an election from congress. I worry a lot more about election laws in swing states stealing the election for Trump. There were more than a few laws passed in republican controlled swing states that gave republicans more discretion in figuring out "legitimate" votes.

  • The prime Republican demographic is rich white christian men.

Voters that don't provide proof of citizenship are very likely to be poor. It's a hoop to jump through that's a lot harder when you don't have money, time, and a car.

I'll also point out that it's completely unnecessary as the great state of AZ has all the resources they'd need to go name by name and verify that these people are indeed citizens. Making them provide it during registration is a filler for the poor.

Much like literacy tests were there to filter out black people.

  • Shapiro is a HUGE Zionist and has had problems in his office with sexual harassment (not by him, but his aides). With some saying he helped to cover it up.

He may play well in Pennsylvania, he does not play well in many states like Michigan and would not play well with the youth vote. The only real reason to pick Shapiro is for AIPAC money.

  • I really struggle to understand how keeping innocent people behind bars is popular with anyone. The only thing I can come up with is that the people kept behind bars are some racial or religious minority.

I would have thought "this guy is stopping the release of exonerated people" would upset a lot of people.

  • Agreed. Fuck sources like CNN telling her to drop cabinet heads like Lina Khan, just because daddy business doesn't want to pay taxes.

It's strictly a donor thing as even in super conservative idaho, I've never heard negative things about the more progressive positions. It's only business owners that hate it.

  • The story is that he proudly shared this story. He thinks telling his young child to shut the hell up because Trump is more important paints him in a good light.

This wasn't a hidden camera capturing a bad moment, this was Vance bragging.

It's a story because he's a weirdo monster that cares more about licking Trump's boots than loving his kids. Even if that's not the case, he told that story precisely to communicate how much he loves a man he previously described as a modern Hitler.

  • I'm a former mormon, and I can tell you that love bombing (from a cultists perspective) is never from ill intent. They are just trying to share "the truth" and they believe that if you adopt "the truth" everything about your life will be made better.

If someone is love bombing you for an organization, first thing to do is investigate that organization. Read the stuff they don't want you to read. Particularly, don't pull that information from their media/materials. You should seek out the opinions of ex-members of the organization to get a real feel for what it's all about.

For example, imagine if the rotary club was trying to recruit you. What do you think an exrotarian would say? Well, you can google it. And, surprise, it's mostly "Yeah, I moved and just sort of lost interest".

Now go visit /r/exmormon and see the miles of shit they have to say about previous membership.

That, to me, is the acid test. Are exmembers that way because it was just sort of a "meh" event. Or did they get there because the organization was abusive?

  • I tend to agree, but I will say if Dems truly want the will of the people, then they should switch all the primaries over to RCV. The current FPTP system gives incumbents huge advantages while penalizing reform candidates with similar politics.

Send delegates proportionally allocated to the top 2 or 3 and run the convention the same way.

  • Nah, he turned deeply unpopular right after the debate with trump. He was hemorrhaging in the polls. His backers abandoned him because they feared trump winning. Several polls about biden dropping out had something like 75% of democrats wanting him to drop.

Kamala has ran to the left of biden on a number of issues. If this were a "billionares fear taxes" situation she wouldn't have been the replacement. There are some rumors that establishment dems didn't want Kamala to be the pick because of her policies.

  • Were it not for Israel, I'd be telling you about how great Biden has been domestically (except the boarder). His administration has by and large been very progressive with the policies it's enacted. Biden's abhorrent sucking up to Israel during an active genocide is the huge dark spot on his presidency.

It is a bit dumb that "he's too old" is what got him out.

  • It won't be hard. Kamala is going to be able to put a bullseye on Trump and republican politics like Biden simply wasn't ever able to do. She's going to be able to hyper focus on the deeply unpopular beliefs of the base and it will be hard for Trump or others to really deny it without losing their core supporters.

Further, because she's relatively unknown there's really not the same baggage as there was with Hillary. Most people don't know who she is and I think that really plays to her favor.

  • Yup. Kamala is also not a bad pick because republicans are almost certainly going to start with racism/sexism as their first attacks "Oh, she's DEI". Given trump has been trying to court the black/Latino vote, this will play against him.

Further, Kamala will be able to excellently push him on abortion. Biden really sucked at advocating for women's rights even though that's been a winner pretty much every time it's been the focus of a campaign (there's a reason Rs have backed away from mentioning it).

It'll still be close and there's still a lot of unknowns. However, I for one think this is the right move.
