IIRC there is already a bot flag on profiles, though it relies on bot-makers manually setting it and as far as I'm aware you can't automatically block all bot users (though I haven't tried every single Lemmy app).
Kinda hard to buy a Framework when they don't sell to your country! Framework laptops are only available in a handful of areas, whereas Macbooks are sold in almost every country on Earth.
I used to be a big fan of Opera back when it was good but I wouldn't recommend using anything made by them since they got bought out by a shady Chinese company that makes their money off of predatory payday loan apps with exploitative interest rates in a few developing nations. Firefox (and Mull and the like) are the best Android web browsers but if you really want a Chromium-based one then I'd recommend looking into using one that's open source and not owned by an unethical corporation.
Here in NZ the government didn't even ban darts but the high taxes have led to a decent amount of illegal (and potentially unsafe/adulterated) Chinese/Indonesian durries being sold on the black market - got some off a mate half a decade ago that were half the price of the cheapest legal ciggies at the time, and legal ones have gone up by some $15/pack since then!
Valve and Steam have pulled their fair share of shady anti-consumer moves, like the time they violated Aussie and EU consumer protection laws with their refund policy (fucking EA Origin had refunds years before Steam); there have also been allegations of it being a toxic workplace with a trans former employee claiming she was referred to as "it" by her manager.
Nintendo has had underpowered/old hardware compared to their competitors for almost my entire life, raw processing power isn't really why most people buy Nintendo.
Man I agree with the sentiment (particularly how you've applied it) but I dont think that the mass murder of children for ideological reasons actually is something that a free society should have to put up with in order to maintain freedom.
I think you've got a bit of a misconception about FOSS software - you're allowed to make money selling it, you just also have to provide the source code to any customers! A fair few FOSS apps have free versions on F-Droid but paid versions on the Play store, for example.
"Firefish" doesn't defederate from anything because it's just a set of software. The specific instance that that user visited might not defederate from right wing instances, but other firefish instances do.
It's just as likely that a super smart general/"sentient" AI would simply decide that the ultra-rich/powerful are the problem and would just get rid of them.
Isn't that a problem with specific instances/federation rather than the software itself? There are some hateful right-wing Lemmy instances too but that doesn't seem to be a problem for you as the instance you use has probably defederated from them.
China isn't the end destination of all the stuff they manufacture.
If you pay somebody to murder someone you're still legally responsible for that death, even if you avoided actually pulling the trigger. Same shit with resource use and pollution - paying China to produce stuff for you rather than doing it in-country doesn't magically absolve you of all responsibility for the resource use and environmental destruction that is required to maintain a modern western lifestyle.
Yeah at the end of the day the whole idea of every single person owning a one ton chunk of steel and rare earth metals just to avoid taking the bus or walking a couple of kilometres is unsustainable and incompatible with the continued survival of our society (and maybe even our species).
