  • Here's my Jack-in-the-box story: In high school, Jack-in-the-box was just opening in our town for the first time. My friend group used to go there for the $1 Jumbo Jack. It was a first taste of adult freedom. Positive memories haha

  • There are lots of good answers here. I wanted to add that I had a similar experience. It felt like 10 or 15 years ago, Musk could do nothing wrong. Electric cars? Yes. Space? Yes. Mars? Yes. Futuristic public transit? Sounds great. These were (and are) good goals with human species survival in mind.

His big ideas haven't fully materialized, which is understandable. It's upsetting, though, to watch him act like Trump. He can't admit when he's made a mistake. He must be right. We see him make an ass of himself over and over and we can't help but see him as a would be fascist, an oligarch, or at least a corrupt capitalist pig.

Now, he's criticizing AI over safety concerns. I don't disagree, but it's clear he doesn't give two shits about that. He's just upset that he lost control. He's a narcissist. That's why he's disliked.

  • Certain informative, niche communities like /r/neovim, /r/prequelmemes, and er, um /r/sex. I know there are comparable communities here, but the volume is missing. OTOH, everyone is much friendlier here. And, a smaller user base means our comments don't get buried among thousands. Also, I'm really enjoying new-to-me communities /c/risa.

  • Similarly, I read winget as "wing it". The traditional package managers had better names: apt, yum, pacman. I know it's a terrible reason to like a package manager, but still, a good name goes a long way.

  • I remember drawing the Death Star and lots of TIE Fighters. One version of paint had this line tool that produced the hyperspace lines effect. Nowadays, I dabble with pixel art in Aseprite.

  • Agreed with the others. Nothing is guaranteed and the only thing that matters for election results is votes. Another Trump presidency would be indescribably bad for humanity. We have to take these polls for a grain of salt and VOTE. There's absolutely nothing wrong with reminding others of this.
