Their business plan is to rely on stupid people, just like apple do selling their overpriced products, they know that no matter what as long as they stay relevant there will be idiots following the trend. Purging smart people benefits them because they can create a bigger circlejerk and keep at bay potential troublemakers.

In first world countries people already spend most of their childhood at school. I don't think pushing more education on them will help at this point, perhaps we should actually review the whole education system and make it more down to earth and less about competing to get a job.
Most of the atrocities in the world are driven by greed, popular religions do not advocate for greed or bad actions directly. Religions especially in the west become a tool for rulers and authorities to control people but there never was anything religious about tyrants and dictators to begin with if not the subjugation to their power.

You just tricked yourself. If they are in a defensive war like you said then there must also be an attacker. In all the cases you mentioned the faction attacking is armed with way more weapons being used for attack. This highlight exactly what i'm saying, which is that weapons are mostly made for attack not for defense.
