It's pretty incredible that Don't Look Up is on this list. I'm using this as my Friday inspiration that maybe science policy communication IS possible if we learn how to package it.
I think it'll reach separation (3), but too many engines will have shutdown to reach orbital velocity(4). Self destruct will be beautiful and immediate this time.
This sucks. If I thought there was careful thought behind this I might understand - I'm all for diminishing YT - but it's just another sad reminder of who owns the company.
I don't believe Nitter supports livestreams yet, and won't blame them if they never do. Glad we have unofficial streamers outside of twitter.
I will say that it gives me hope that so many people are pushing back in threads like this. I've been trying a lot of platforms in recent months, and places like Tildes, HackerNews, and even Beehaw seem to be better able to have constructive conversations about heated topics. So we're not alone!
I can relate to this so I'll just add that aligning my diet with my values was the best decision I've ever made. Being able to eat without feeling guilty/confused/complicated was life-changing. I didn't do it all at once, or torture myself.
And we live at this amazing time when you can be lazy AND get amazing not-morally-horrible food! Typing this as I munch on an entire package of addictive store bought animal-free chocolate chip cookies :P
My gut says that if raptor reliability was as poor as the static fire makes it seem then we would be seeing more signs of panic. But now I'm unsure whether any of that would be visible to us. It sure seems like they're feeling good about things, and this theory matches that.
Huh, weird. I just checked a bunch of apps/accounts as well, and it seems to be a lemmy.world problem. If I access this community via other instances I see what you see, but lemmy.world pins the 46B Starship thread and (bafflingly!) the August general discussion thread.
I'll see if this sort of bug has been reported anywhere, but let's assume it's not your problem. Thanks for looking into it :)
Hey @LettuceTurnipTheBeet@lemm.ee, just wondering if it's deliberate that the old thread is pinned instead of this one? Might just be the app I'm using, but it's starting to get hard to find this thread.
Potentially basic question: does anyone know if this section is structural and needs to hold all the weight (plus various forces during flight) of the second stage? As in, there's no hidden scaffolding in the center of the engines?
Did we already know that the jets would be angled sideways? I was expecting vertical jets to maximize the upward force, but maybe it's more complicated than that.
For sure! But I don't think non-advanced users should be enabling 2FA right now. It's puzzling that Lemmy pushed the feature in its current state to production.
You may want to add a warning to your post. For instances that don't require an email address, it's currently quite easy to get permanently locked out of your account because the code is never verified.
