  • I've been on mint for ages but when I updated my RAID this year it originally wouldn't recognize it. I eventually got it recognized but it capped the 16TB drives at 999GB for some reason. For fun, I went up the chain to Ubuntu... Same thing

In frustration I went to Grandma's house with Debian and it worked perfect out of the box. I'd spent hours researching it but the best I found was a potential RAID related bug (lvm, specifically, I think) introduced in Ubuntu that, of course, filtered into Mint. Even fdisk reported the physical drives as 999GB in Mint/Ubuntu.

I still don't know the exact cause but I got it up and running so I'm a Debian guy now, I guess.

Granted, my use case isn't super normal since I'm using a BIOS RAID1 (and we all know how fun BIOS RAID can be) with full disk encryption.

Worked out in the end but it made me sad to ditch Mint

  • I'm going to go with "banana phone" by Raffi ... No one will ever forget it.

  • "when pigs fly: the death of oink, the birth of dissent, and a brief history of record industry suicide"

Look it up if you haven't read it, I never miss an opportunity to post it but it looks like the original demonbaby host is now offline. There are mirrors though.

I'm sure it might help for cold contacts (HR first look?) and things like that, especially without a strong background/CV. But in my limited experience nobody cares if you're good and good to work with.

I say "limited experience" because I've stayed at my last few jobs between 5 and 17 years each. So I've not really been switching that often and therefore usually not actively seeking new positions.

  • You're missing out. Donkey eggs are very high in vitamin A and D.

  • You'll hear no arguments from me : D

    More like curious psychopath, maybe

  • Yeah, at ~8 months these are about 50/50 on whether the yolks hold together. Still taste fine though.

I decided to give it a try since in the spring/summer they were laying way more than we could keep up with ... But mostly because I thought it was interesting and wanted to try it :D

  • Can confirm. We (in US) have chickens and whenever we gift eggs to people they're astounded that they don't need to be refrigerated but also sometimes horrified that they aren't washed.

Granted, I keep the eggs that get poopy for myself so they don't get tossed out by an overly cautious person. I just rinse them immediately before use if they're very dirty. Occasionally one of the hens will have an "accident" and lay an egg in the dirt outside or on the coop floor. Otherwise they look generally like the pic above.

I've yet to have a rotten egg and at times we've gotten behind by over a month... Still good, sitting on the counter for a month.

Fun info, I'm currently eating through some "water glassed" eggs that I stored in May of 2023. Still good.

  • Its a neat field to get into if you're okay with never being comfortable in a public space again!

One step ahead of you my friend! Now, to start on my career transition...

  • This has been commonplace for decades. The government agencies went big into it after 9/11. Funny thing was that I found out about it from a competing company telling me about how the company I worked for at the time was doing it.

I should note that I'm firmly against it, just that it's not new.

It's illegal to spy on your own citizens in the US, but completely okay if someone else does the spying and you buy the data.

  • I'm on mobile with short time so I'll search it later, but what's the origin/symbology of a burning cross? I know the kkk did it, but it seems a bit weird since they leaned towards christian and it's effectively destroying a symbol of their religion.

Typically when we think of burning things it's because the group doing the burning is against the symbol being burned... Flags, books, etc.

I somehow never thought of this angle before

  • At least Docker is achievable

  • O wow, that's awesome and I'll have to try this. We've got a mandolin but both of us suck at playing it :D

  • I don't know why it's so fun, but my day gets better every time I get to pet a turkey.

Let's see if this uploads... It's a picture of her after 10 minutes of pets

Edit: may look creepy, but she seems to be so comfortable that she'll close her eyes and just chill. But I'm no turkey scientist. I imagine if she didn't like it then she wouldn't run up to me.

  • I've been considering this too. I don't have much time at all to game but feel like maybe I'd do better with a portable than can stream to a TV.

I need to search up if they support all games or just those that have been ported. Surely it's more than what has been ported to Linux...

But my mouse and keyboard, hmm

  • My neighbors have a turkey. Every time I walk through the kitchen I look out the window to see if she's in our yard. If so, I run out to pet her.

Also, if I'm working outside she trots over to see what's going on and, of course, I have to stop to pet her for 15 minutes.

She just walks up to me and sits down expecting pets.

  • "you're really good at this and enjoy it so let's get you into middle management where you won't do it anymore and will hate your life"

    Yep.

  • but now you have a field that randomly explodes

That's not a sentence I expected to read today.

  • So... your instance will be a new Twitter clone then?
