  • Bummer, I'm a big fan of planned bloodless mega heists, and it sounds this was one of the recent greats.

Not to moralize, but I have no doubt whatever financial institution these items "rightfully belonged to", has exponentially more bodies on their ledger then this crime ring. Just saying.

  • None of the above. It was used to hide improper/illegal expenditures. If I recall correctly it was vacation expenses, or something else that stupid. Basically lecturn cost $1k or $2k, and the rest got funneled back to cover those costs.

  • I refuse to believe that any data they harvest from gig workers will come close to covering their overhead costs, much less generate a profit.

I absolutely believe that the founders will make out like bandits before this is either acquired by a bigger dumber company, or shuttered.

  • Australia has relatively strong unions, sensible gun laws, and single payer health care. That's where the good news mostly ends.

It's possibly even more corrupted then the US Government in how beholden it is to it's oligarch class, and it's mass media market has only two companies. One of which is the Murdoch press (News Corp), and they are actually slightly less evil and corrupt then their one competitor, Nine News/Entertainment.

They have also privatized their water supply to a large degree to benefit the cotton industry, so it'll be interesting to see how, or if, they'll even try to remedy this situation.

  • Not what I said. But you are proving my point.

The fact that you can't see the irony in your own response, is more evidence for your point than anything else.

Regardless, I don't think that should deprive you of the right to anonymity.

  • Reports not substantiated will be filed as hate incidents.

Hate incidents can be included on the records requested by employers, as it is relevant information held by the police.

I'm not sure what you're not understanding.

  • Even that thread shows how that system is ripe for abuse:

"If a hate crime is reported to the police and following investigation no criminality is established, it will be recorded as a “hate incident”, although this is now being reviewed by the police. Hate incidents are not recorded against alleged perpetrators, but their names appear in the police files for the complainant.

Under Police Scotland’s enhanced disclosure programme, prospective employers can request criminal history information on any person including: unspent convictions, relevant spent convictions, unspent cautions, inclusion on children’s or adults’ lists, information from the sex offenders register, and other relevant information held by the police. This final category would include non-crime hate incidents, meaning they could be disclosed to employers."

  • You keep saying conspiracy because it's easy to discount that label, a label that I never used.

I wasn't describing a plot by some old men in a smoke filled room, I was pointing out an example of propaganda used to manufacture consent.

Unfortunately, the culprit is the system, working as designed. That's an exponentially more dangerous villain then any cabal could ever be.

  • This is a perfect example of truthful mainstream propaganda.

I have no doubt all of the facts in this piece are correct, but they're also aligned in such a way to suggest to the reader that the real root of the problem is that commoners are allowed to have anonymous social media accounts not tied to a real name or some government ID program.

  • I've probably worked on more campaigns than you've had election cycles. Both paid, and as a volunteer.

I'm not in the habit of sharing too many personal details online, but I will say that my background in statewide and national politics, specifically Democratic politics, made me actually laugh out loud when I read your comment.

    Thanks for that.

  • That darn court, jeepers. If only Democrats had other levers of power at their disposal...gosh, just bad luck that they're always able to help out their donors, but just can't push through major legislation for the rest of us...

  • I hope you're young and this is your idealism talking, otherwise you're just delusional.

I've been through too many election cycles, and worked on enough campaigns, to see this as anything but the empty campaign rhetoric that it is.

But hey, please come back and rub this "L" in my face if that promised debt relief ever comes through.

  • Oh, just in time for another election...gee, what a coincidence.

And, if by some miracle, he doesn't lose to Trump, he'll be just fine and dandy when some "administrative/process complication" blocks it, just like last time.
