  • I want to say it was about 2005 or 2006.

My first "broadband" was Hughes satellite internet, due to living in a rural location. It was hot garbage, but it was better than dialup.

The speeds were Ok (for me), but the data cap (applied daily) was draconian. I don't recall the specific amount but it basically made it impossible to stream video in any capacity.

There was a 3-hour period from midnight to 3am every night where the cap didn't count. That effectively became internet time because it was unusable otherwise.

    I got cable in 2010.

  • The lobby is strong.

California literally had a ballot measure to force Uber, etc to hire as employees, and they spent so much money muddying the water that it failed.

  • There was never another outcome.

Capitalism breeds one thing, and it certainly isn't innovation, and it most definitely isnt not-for-profit innovation.

  • Rich and black usually distills to black for these purposes

  • Opted for comfy chairs instead, since they fit the limited space better than a couch.

  • I think the issue is a bit more nuanced. Graphics have gotten so good that it is relatively easy to get character animations which sit in the uncanny valley.

The uncanny valley is bad. You can have beautiful, photorealistic graphics everywhere, but if your characters are in the uncanny valley, the overall aesthetic is more similar to a game which didn't have the photorealism at all.

In the past, the goalpost was at a different spot, so putting all the resources towards realism still wouldn't get you into the valley, and everyone just thought it looked great.

  • The way to attract talented American engineers is to pay them more, not replace them with ringers. Fucking twat.

  • Oh yeah. I had completely forgotten about JD Vance. I don't have a couch in my house so he's usually out of context.

  • Indeed. Regulation is deeply unpopular these days. At least with the oligarchs.

  • It sucks because I've always liked Logitech hardware. Though I suppose you don't need to run the software suite (or if you're on Linux it isn't an option anyway).

  • These are the people the modern Republican party puts forth. These are the "values" we are told we need.

  • Tbh I think she owes We The People some of that congressional salary back. And a major apology. The right thing to do would have been to stand the fuck down. Dementia or not, she was unable to do her job.

  • Such a weird thing to be excited about. Biden will get half the time to make appointments. This is the AstroTurf of good news.

  • Let's not act like the Citizens United decision hasn't been a major, major issue in US politics since it was made

  • No it isn't the same, but it is something. I'd sleep a lot better knowing I at least had a run down farmhouse on the way instead of working until I die to pay the rent.

  • Yes, that is by far the most appropriate. Considering that is the terminology that was used to demonize the possibility of public healthcare in the US.

  • Generational wealth is a huge cancer on the system that isn't talked about enough. You can't fix wealth inequality with nepo-babies running around.
