  • Trump: "immigrants are evil, unless they have an H-1B visa, cuz that's good for profits"

  • Killing the Cybertruck.

With Tesla quality control, a fire is just a bug, until it kills the truck.

Edit: and before an Elon bootlicker comments that it was fireworks in the truck bed -- I get it. The joke is based on Tesla's reputation for poor build quality, and yes, it has that reputation.

  • The mouse cursor showing up correctly rules out a physical connection issue to the screen.

What is supposed to be on the screen right now? Is it just the deskop, an app, a game... ? That might provide more insight.

But I'd guess a hardware issue off the bat. Something with the GPU, or perhaps more specifically with VRAM.

  • This has crossed my mind as well.

For the moment, I feel like this is real infighting. There must be push/pulls among MAGA. H-1B, for example, is one area where I could see real infighting. You have the rich MAGA (which ultimately runs the whole thing), but you've also got the poor MAGA which has been bred on a fuckton of anti-immigrant sentiment.

What might be interesting is (assuming it is indeed real infighting) if the focus on rich vs poor is brought more into the forefront due to this. That certainly isn't something the MAGA leadership wants.

But holding one's breath for more/better info is smart, for now.

  • The trend will continue. You can't bleed water from a stone. All of this has a ceiling.

People are likely spending less because they have to spend more in other areas. That won't change, and wages certainly aren't going up.

Every corporation everywhere cannot continue to increase profits year over year. It is a mathematical impossibility.

  • snap

This one is gonna divide the Linux folks.

  • At this point, EU regulations are driving a lot of decisions big companies have to make.

The rich have purchased the US and thus it really isn't regulating anything anymore.

These rich folks need to weaken the EU so that it cannot regulate as effectively. That is probably the frame that makes the most sense.

  • Thanks daddy

  • but overall macOS feels much less hostile to me than windows.

Sure, but this is a purely subjective measure. Same with Linux.

And the fact is, the Mac has been consistently marketed to creatives since its inception. It is, at the very least, difficult to see how it would have fared without that approach.

  • But it would be a stretch to say that support is the result of current macOS. The Mac has always been popular with creatives, since way before it was UNIX-based.

I'd argue the popularity with creatives is largely from being marketed to creatives since its earliest days.

  • Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Imbeciles can call out other imbeciles. But they won't do it all the time.

  • Then they get named after corporate sponsors.

  • Sure. But the other handhelds which don't have trackpads are incapable of playing games without controller support. That is a huge difference regardless of whether or not they run SteamOS.

  • Tbh the round, concave trackpads on the Steam Controller were better in every way. But I'm happy we at least still have the trackpads at all.

  • Fair, maybe it just isn't for you.

But ultimately, the point is: the Deck is the only one of these handhelds with the trackpads. If you don't use them, maybe it doesn't matter, but it doesn't change the fact that the Deck is the only such handheld capable of playing games with no controller support.

  • You can set the actuation to require the slightest of pulls to engage a click. It's all fully customizable.

Pressing on the trackpad for click often moves your finger, which moves the cursor during the click. It can get annoying.

  • And he still does not understand that free speech ≠ freedom from potential consequences based on exercising that speech.

Edit: but to be fair, I don't know why anyone would expect a robber baron emerald mine nepo-baby from South Africa to understand free speech.

  • I'm glad this got press.

Such slowdowns tend to be good for the average person.

They're bad for speculators, investors, shareholders -- mostly rich people who are too moneyblind to see that endless growth is untenable. To those people, I say: fuck you.
