Chicken and Egg. Linux is barely above 2%. When it breaks 10-20% market share, I expect companies will start making native ports more common.

The fact that proton/dxvk/vulkan/wine let's things just work with little to no changes is already pretty incredible.

I think it's more important that it gives Valve a method of avoiding being shoehorned into a "Windows only world". The Steam Deck is largely why Linux has pushed past 2% market share on the Steam Hardware Survey consistently now. Holo, which is the codename for SteamOS on the Deck, makes up over half of Steam on Linux.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not dillusional. Windows is still far and away the majority platform and will be for some time. However, there is a real, functional choice now that didn't exist a few years ago.

Meanwhile the Steam Deck is selling like gangbusters.

You haven't seen Texas, then. Texas has Big Bend, which is my second favorite National Park in the whole country. And I've been to over 100 National Parks, Preserves, and Monuments.

Yosemite is still more beautiful, though.

Davis Mountains, Palo Duro, Enchanted Rock.......Texas is a huge ass state with a lot of different stuff to see.

I've seen basically all of the West half of the US and lived there. Yes, California is more beautiful. I'm just saying Texas isn't some horribly drab state all around. Big Bend, Davis Mountains, etc. are beautiful in their own right.

I've traveled the country full time in an RV for two years. Yes, there are more beautiful places in the US (Sequoia, Redwood Forests, Olympic National Park, etc), but I'm just saying that Texas isn't all just some drab hole-in-the-wall. If you want that, go to Ohio or Indiana.

Host your own Wireguard endpoint on any cloud provider. They give you elastic IPs that you can create 1:1 NATs for your hosts. Maybe not quite as clean, but effectively the same thing.

Until they take away the checkbox.

My kids have never used a Windows computer. Android and Linux are all they know.

Yeah I get that. That's where Plug-in hybrids are a good fit.

Most people have the option of plugging in where they live and/or work. The only argument would be for apartment complexes. Townhouses, single family homes, etc. are easy to switch to electric.

Or you could just get a Plug-in Hybrid, if that's a concern.
