  • VPNs are highly restricted. China has their own subset of the Internet that only quasi connects to the rest of the Internet. If it's not politically or socially objectionable, it's allowed with little to no oversight.

Gotta love totalitarian government's hellbent on curtailing personal rights and privileges.

  • They make nice looking devices, but I'd never trust a device from them.

Of course, I don't trust a LOT of devices these days. Sure would be nice if we had a decent 5G capable, open source alternative. I don't care if it costs $800+. I'd buy it.

  • Nifty project. Definitely I could see this being useful for discussing things that would traditionally be censored on other more centralized or semi-decentralized platforms (piracy, anti-authoritarian discussions in an oppressive country, etc).

I gave it a try and the loading times are atrocious, though. I suppose that's an unfortunate problem with running decentralized.

  • No. This is a BS "both sides" type argument.

There are other terror states. Iran, China, Russia, Afghanistan, and many more, but there are many countries that focus on freedom and democratic values. Some might be slipping into tyrannical government's slowly (looking at you US of A), but even those are nowhere near the levels Russia is.
