  • Aegis. An open source authenticator app similar to Google Authenticator or Authy. I really like to back up my encrypted credentials to my nextcloud.

  • I really think it is connected to the fact that many managers never had to think about how long something takes and how much work they actually need out of someone. It used to be, that if you stare at your screen from 9-5 you probably did all the work you could. But now they can't see you stare at the screen and they fear they don't get all the work out of you. For the first time management has to figure out how much work they need instead of going by time spent in the office. That scares them.

  • I think the biggest problem is that employers used to require that we do all the work we can do. The easiest way to achieve that is to observe that no one is slacking off. With Home Office there is suddenly a need to find out what is a reasonable workload. They seem to fear that they don't get occupy the employees 100% of the time and as usual on capitalism it is not enough when you produce enough bit when you produce all you can.

  • A masterpiece 🎨

  • The userbase is not that important with activity pub. If the features are good they can grow slowly and still enjoy the whole fediverse. Of course it is important to have users at all. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to put work on the software.

  • Graphics fidelity is getting really great.

  • Most likely. I used some random usb c hubs that I had laying around and it worked like a charm. I also have a dock from jsaux. Works great as well. From my experience the deck isn't too picky.

  • The problem is not the data. Only the central nature and the dependency on a central point.

  • As pretty as that would be it has its problems. For this to work you need an authentication service. If you use that service for everything then your accounts are linked to this auth provider and you get a problem if that service goes down. You create a single point of failure.

That being said matrix and mastodon support oauth providers. So it is possible to have unified authentication provider for these two. Lemmy doesn't support this yet.

  • You don't understand: it is not good if something is popular. Then there are people outside my bubble and they ruin it.

  • The great thing is that if a lot of people like Mastodon they can use it and if you don't like it you can use something differenent and you will still be able to communicate. That's the whole point.

  • I mean this sucks but you could also just not eat any chicken.

  • If you are above 18 this doesn't concern you anyway

  • If I never have to smell cigarette smoke again and also no one ever uses the medical system to cure the consequences of smoking then I don't care. Otherwise I am all for this.

  • Nope. Bash (at least by default on Ubuntu) doesn't have case insensitive tab completion.

  • I have never set my DNS in my browser. Always in the system or in the router. So I don't think I can help you.

  • I don't like it either but the facts are the facts. Transitioning between technologies is always hard, especially if it isn't necessary. Nat works too well.

  • How are you changing your dns? In your router or in your system?
