  • That's a real struggle for a lot of people. I'll admit to habitually coming into the office at 8:15 or 8:30. But I found a career where that works, so it's okay. In an old job where punctuality was more important (shift work), I had to buckle down a bit more.

Meanwhile, my parent's housekeeper that comes in once a month or so for a deep clean absolutely cannot hold a regular job, because I've never known her to arrive within 3 hours of when she planned. The first time she was hired was for a make-ready on their house that was being built while we were all living in campers on their property during Covid. I went over to the new house to grab some ice from the freezer at like midnight, and found her dusting the master bedroom because she hadn't arrived until like 5pm and make-readies take all day.

That being said, she does and I'd recommend her to anybody, so long as they're okay with the housekeeper occasionally being there at like 7 or 8 at night when they were supposed to be there from like 10am till noon.

  • My school had a number you could call and they'd dispatch a golf cart with 2 student workers to take you anywhere on campus for free, 24/7 (minus holidays and breaks when University offices were cosed).

  • In poor countries, children are a long-term economic asset. They will eventually be able to work and contribute to the family's income and can take care of their parents when they're older.

In developed countries, children are an economic liability.

  • We've had the same 2 parties since before the Civil War. But both have been changed drastically from the inside.

That's how it has to be done in a 2-party system like ours.

  • Was reading a resume, and at the bottom is said something along the Iines of "Does this one look better Mom? I added a few closed businesses like you recommended."

It started kinda sweet but dumb, then quickly moved on to the "do not consider for future positions" list.

  • I use lots of FOSS software. I work in a municipal government job where I have to fill a lot of roles that aren't funded as separate positions, so I use GIMP, Inkscape, and QGIS daily because the professional software isn't budgeted. I also use OBS frequently, among others.

But GIMP is by far the worst FOSS alternative I've come across when compared against its paid competition. I hate Adobe the company, but Photoshop really is the gold standard.

I use both heavily. Oddly enough I use GIMP at work and Photoshop for my personal use and side gig.

  • We absolutely cannot afford to make a third party right now. That splits the vote and guarantees Republican dominance going forward.

We must change the Democratic party through primaries.

  • Like it or not (I do not), the most important determining factor in American elections is people's feelings about the economy. The horrors being done by our government are easy to turn a blind eye to. But the cost of living is something that can't be avoided or suppressed.

Economic ruin is how we beat these motherfuckers.

  • That's not legal in any state.

I used to run gun raffles, and the way they actually worked is the organization doing the raffle would partner with an FFL, and what they actually won was a gift card redeemable for the exact value of the gun. That gift card would be used for the winner to purchase a firearm, including a NICS check.
