  • Windows 11 also drove me to Linux again...

Although to be fair, it came pre-installed on my new laptop and I was just too lazy to wipe it and switch over. My (now) backup laptop has been running ubuntu for years now, same with my desktop before it died.

But I got about 6 months of windows 11 after de-cluttering it. Still wasn't enough to convince me to keep it.

  • So you don't care about children dying when they're Palestinian?

Thank you for being honest about it, but maybe be more upfront about your hatred in the future. Then we can all dismiss you out of hand and not have to waste time on your bullshit.

  • So you don't care about brown people dying to fuel Netanyahu's love of ethnic cleansing?

Are you one of those jackasses who believe that the Jews have to control the holy land so that Jesus can come back and send them all to hell?

Those fucks seem to care about innocent deaths as much as you seem to...

  • Israel doesn't bomb military relevant targets, unless you count every single building in Gaza as "Militarily relevant".

The lie of "Israel defending themselves" has also worn thin after it was revealed that Netanyahu was both supporting Hamas, and had copies of their full plans over two years ago.

He even diverted troops from Gaza to aid in the ethnic cleansing over in the West Bank.

  • It doesn't matter how many people use the service, what matters is how many advertisers are left vs how much debt twitter has to service.

Those two numbers seem to be heavily on the side of the debt now.

  • Everyone in the progressive caucus seem to be good.

No real complaints about any of them. They constantly push for good shit.

And if they weren't paid, you might not have as many of them.

No, the absolute only people you'd have in congress would be rich assholes from rich families.

  • Yes, there are a bunch of corrupt bastards. But there are also quite a few who actually seem to give a damn.

Cut away the pay, and then the only people who could ever afford to be politicians would be the people just like the clueless old lady from the article. i.e. the rich.

  • It shouldn't be a career, but it should also be paid relatively well.

See, if you take away the pay, then only the very rich could ever afford to be politicians, and the very rich are not the sort of people you want in charge of a country...

Case in point, this very article.

Also, when you don't pay politicians, you end up paying them anyway through outright corruption. Which is already a problem, don't make it worse.

The better solution is a consecutive term limit. You can be elected as many times as you can pull it off, just not in a row. You have to go spend a term in your home district every other term or so. So two on, one off.

As a bonus, this two on, one off setup would result in a lot of turnover without forcing every single person in congress to learn how to be in congress every term.

  • 10-15 years ago, it was a problem dire enough to drive me back to windows until about the start of the pando, and I've not even thought about Wi-Fi drivers since coming back to Linux.

I did have issues with a cheap USB Wi-Fi dongle thing a few years back, but that was likely the fault of the dongle more than anything else, I know because it didn't really work under widows either.

  • To be fair, it is very different. Trump committed some actual crimes. Serious crimes.

Republicans looked the other way, and for good measure plugged their ears while screaming nonsense like a bunch of toddlers who didn't want to hear that it was time for bed.

  • It's more accurate to say that Russia under the Soviets was also an authoritarian state.

Authoritarians by their very nature are right-wing.

Putin, the Soviets, the Nazis, Conservatives, and Fascists of all flavors are obsessed with control and conformity.

It's far easier to control a population when everyone is exactly the same.

This is why the true left wing movements have always embraced minorities and outliers.

This of course is a call back to the very origins of the terms left and right when discussing politics. The French Revolution. A vote was held. One of the first of the new assembly. The question was, "Should the king have an absolute veto over new laws?". Those in support of the monarchy sat to the right of the speaker's podium. Those opposed sat to the left.

All the economic bullshit of capitalism v communism was added later. Making the Soviets, a supposedly communist nation, firmly right wing. Not that the Soviets were particularly good at actual communism. Communism sort of requires the workers to control the means of production, not the State. Workers must be working for their own profit, not the profit of the State.

Working for the profit of the State is more of a kleptocracy.
