What are functions that are not a part of your job that common wisdom would make people expect are a part of it?

  • I'm a software developer. All my relatives assume that I know how to troubleshoot every computer problem they have. From cleaning up crapware-ridden ancient Windows XP laptops to replacing failed hard drives, they call me for help.

    I mean I do, but that's not the point!

    I mean what other choice is there? The way US elections are designed (electoral college, distribution of state representatives, re-drawing local districts on whims, unlimited amount of money being able to be poured into campaigns without any oversight or even reporting requirements, etc.,) voting for a third party is throwing your vote away. So you vote for the lesser evil. Unless you are so brainwashed as to vote against your own self-interest out of fear of the other side.

  • I have not kept up with gaming much for the past decade, so my list is going to be very dated. In no particular order:

    • Starsiege: Tribes (Tribes 2 gets an honorable mention)
    • EarthSiege 2
    • EverQuest (very begrudgingly, but it did kick the era of MMORPGs into overdrive, and I was addicted to it for almost a decade)
    • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
    • Mass Effect Legendary Edition (I'm counting the trilogy as a single game)
    • X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter
    • Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe
    • Cities: Skylines
    • Star Trek Online (only because of storylines)
    • Battlefield 1942

    No console games on my list, because PCMR! :P
