  • LSL was a pioneer in micro-transactions. This was pre Internet, mind you. If you got stuck, you could call a paid 1-900 number for hints or straight walkthroughs, and they charged ~$4 per minute. Don't ask me how I know.

  • Difficult to pick a single fave. Here are the games I've spent most of my time playing back then.

    On PC:

    • X-Wing series (X-Wing, TIE Fighter, etc.)
    • Star Control 2
    • Earthsiege 1 and 2
    • Starsiege: Tribes
    • Team Fortress mod for Quake
    • EverQuest

On arcade, mostly fighting games, and some side-scrollers:

    • Mortal Kombat 1, 2, 3, 4
    • Killer Instinct 1 and 2
    • Virtua Fighter 1 and 2
    • Marvel Vs. Street Fighter
    • TMNT
    • X-Men: Children of the Atom

Want to go back to the 80s? Lode Runner, Rescue on Fractalus! and Karateka. Also Gyruss introduced me to modern remixes of classical music.

  • Where's the "none of the above" choice? Aside from keeping the time, all I want from a smartwatch is the ability to see its screen both in the dark and under direct sunlight, a week-long battery life, 5ATM water resistance rating, receiving notifications from my phone (with the ability to dismiss them), ability to have customizable watch faces, and finally the ability to accept standard size watch bands. The last watch I've owned that could do almost all of that (aside from standard bands or ) was Pebble Steel. I still miss it to this day.

Everything else was an overpriced disappointment. I don't need it to monitor my heart rate, or my blood oxygen level, or my blood alcohol level. I don't want it to prod me or give me pep talks, or make phone calls, or play music, since my phone can do all of that better.

  • Nothing is going to change. NYPD is government funded, so in effect the tax payers will cover this bill.

According to this AP article, "The board recommended charges and other discipline against 89 officers. Of those cases, three were resolved through guilty pleas, four officers forfeited vacation days, five officers retired or resigned before disciplinary action could be taken, nine officers were not disciplined by the department and administrative proceedings are pending against 62 officers, the report said."

In other words, slightly less than a slap on the wrist. NYPD will miss that $13 mil maybe for a day or two, and then the City will just redirect that money right back to them from other, already underfunded, services.

  • Technically, no. Although they did post this is "Chat" and not "Vent".

Seriously though. OP, this sucks. Are you in any position to put some distance between yourself and the parents, or are you still fully dependent on them? Do you have someone close whom you trust and can confide in? Finding support online is good, but having a real person by your side (and on your side) is heaps better.
