  • We have a daily SUM which is supposed to last 15 minutes. It is usually over an hour, but work makes up at best 20 minutes. The rest is just us chatting.

We also have regular calls with other teams which follow a similar pattern.

It is easy to have "water-cooler" chats while working remotely.

  • Disclaimer: my wife has a chronic neck injury.

Car! We've had Renaults for years, but last time we went for a BMW and the difference is night and day. My wife had to do lots of stretching exercises just to go and buy bread. In the BMW she can happily drive 5-6 hours with no (extra) discomfort.

  • That 3D file system browser (I presume you're talking about Jurassic Park) was totally real.

It was a tech demo that SGI included with IRIX called "fsn". Ironically, at the time, many people criticised it for being unrealistic. There is an open source clone called "fsv".

  • For pulling out into the lane, it may have been called "taking primary".

If the road is not wide enough to pass them safely, that is the best place to be. That way drivers cannot try and squeeze through. Obviously, I cannot speak for the precise road conditions where this happened, but it is legitimate in certain circumstances. Traffic calming is a good example, as it makes the lane too small for a safe overtake. Add in the fact that most cycle lanes in cities are more dangerous than the main carriageway and you can see why cyclists will take the prime quite often.

  • Get a saddle with a cut out and go faster. More pressure on the pedals means less on you backside.

Strangely a saddle that appears more uncomfortable is usually more comfortable. All you want is to support you tail bones and nothing else. If it is applying pressure elsewhere, you will get discomfort.

Personally, I use Fizik saddles. They are not cheap, but they are amazing.

  • I know, but do TV shows to it?

I understand that it dynamic range is necessary and having none is terrible (look up "loudness wars" in the recording industry), but it seems TV shows are no longer mastered for a actual home consumption.

Back in the day, we would work on our nice studio monitors, switch to a pair of NS10s to make sure it would sound good on a cheap Hifi, but we would also make it sound good on something garbage. Sometimes (always in fact) this was to the detriment of how sound on good gear, but 99% of people use garbage.
