  • Yep. I daily drive Vivaldi on both macOS and Android.

I love it. The sidebar is a great feature; I stash my extension icons there. The theme is highly customizable; I have mine set to something similar to the Opera dark theme.

I don't use the email or calendar features. The great thing about Vivaldi is that they provide a ton of power user features, but don't shove it in your face. It's super easy to turn off the things you don't want and to turn on the things you do want.

I do use UBO, but they also have a builtin ad blocker if you want to use that instead.

The settings page is very extensive. Tons of customization. True to the Opera legacy!

  • The Bluey run memed so hard. After the run, people were shouting "hooray!" after every significant event in other games, e.g. when collecting shines in Super Mario Sunshine.

The Super Mario Sunshine and Mario Kart 64 runs both had great commentary.

Super Mario 64 Drum% was great. CZR did a 16 star run with a drum kit.

This was my first time seeing Cocoon, and my mind was blown. Orb!

The Super Metroid TAS was awesome.

The Metroid Dread race was nail biting. 2s difference over a 1h50m race.

Go! Go! Hamster Chef. No spoilers. You should watch it.

Edit: add some more stuff above.

  • Those Nintendo releases this year we're bangers:

    • Tears of the Kingdom
    • Super Mario Wonder
    • Pikmin 4
    • Super Mario RPG Remake
    • Metroid Prime Remastered

Plus the DLCs for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe came out this year.

Great year for gaming IMO. But yeah, all of these are niche enough that I wouldn't expect any of them to be top sellers.

On the other hand, I know at least one non-gamer that got a Switch just to play Hogwarts Legacy.

  • Safety. Yes, Rust is more safe. I don’t really care.

I think this is honestly the crux of Drew's argument.

If a compiler is to prove safety of a program in a language with low level memory management, then there is a lot of inherent complexity. Drew doesn't like complexity, therefore Drew doesn't like safety.

  • The average American is not tech savvy.

(Which is surprising, given that the US has arguably the strongest software development industry in the world.)

Most Americans just use the default apps installed on their phones. Facebook Messenger is really the only non-default messaging app with mass market penetration, and that's because most Americans already have Facebook accounts.

Americans just don't want to sign up for new accounts or learn new apps. Therefore, iMessage won by default.

  • I think Japan skewed heavily towards solo.

IIUC, winter holidays are more like a labor day kinda situation than the winter holiday tradition we have in the west. It feels like team solo was definitely in the minority in my part of the world.

  • What's the difference in bookmark management versus read-it-later? Do you need compatibility with a specific browser?

Do low tech solutions work? Like passing a JSON or something around with rsync?
