  • There's an old saying that engineers measure with a micrometer, mark with a grease pen, and cut with a hatchet. You do the math right first, check the tolerances and tools at hand, then you try whatever seems like it'll work keeping room for your second and third guesses. Never give the boss their company credit card back until you're pretty sure you won't need another hardware run of the day.

  • Exactly. You demonstrate to me that a goblin is a house sized red avian, I won't love that thats the word you used unless you give me a reason, but once thats done you better not use that word to describe a little green hominid.

  • I bet she gets really mad if you compare her proposal to the shoah, and it's purely because she thinks her people didn't deserve it, not because its a fundamentally evil thing to do to anyone and nobody deserves it.

  • For the kids looking for a good use of psychedelics, the golden rule is to start low, increase potency slowly, and if you're ever thinking you might have a dud, give it about 1.5 the amount of time it takes to really kick in before trying a second. If the second is a dud too, enjoy a nice day of sober relaxation in the environment you'd planned on being high in, the third try may very well be what gets you. Remember, once you take it, you can't go back and take less and time to kick in isn't always going to be the same.

  • Yeah. And a lot of parental abuse happens in gray areas and with good intentions. Sure you have obvious cases, and they're common enough I'd suspect most people know someone or another who was a victim to one. But there's a hell of a lot of parents projecting their fears, traumas, or other issues relating to their kids onto them hard enough to fuck them up.
