  • It's understandable to feel disillusioned by the transformation of Instagram from a platform for sharing authentic moments to a stage for meticulously crafted advertisements. The rise of AI-generated content does raise questions about the necessity of human-driven influencer roles. As technology advances, the idea of influencer roles might indeed evolve or become automated, possibly allowing social media to revert to its original purpose: genuine human interaction and connection. This shift could potentially bring back the essence of social media as a platform for meaningful conversations among people.

  • I love to just have them on, in the background. These movies are self-aware. The Netflix equivalent has its own universe with internal references to each other, which includes fake countries, maps, etc. I'm no joke invested in the Netflix Christmas-verse or whatever the fuck.

Hallmark is a little less fun to watch, but still quality rubbish. Everyone knows it's over the top. The actors, producers, and writers are all in on it. I'm not saying that makes them good. They are still bad. But when you watch them knowing the content is almost intentionally cringe, it's a bit better. With a slight shift in perspective and perhaps a bit of squinting, you can see the Christmas overtures as nothing more than satire. Last year, one movie just threw in a vague reference to Santa. No beard. No glasses. Just a guy who wore a red coat and occasionally would get 1-3 seconds on camera breaking the fourth wall. He had like one line. No gifts. No reindeer. Never interacting with the Christmas Couple. Just essentially an old dude in red. To me, that's the height of humor. It's like they're just wafting a single sprig of holly over the film in the editing room. I crack up every time.

  • Lol that's fair. I really wish we could manage things into chests. I want an armor chest, weapons chest, quest chest, etc. but I feel like the way it works right now isn't too bad but maybe I'm a glutton for pain.

  • Drones that target people with image analysis. Facial detection is trivial these days. Drones have proven to be one of Ukraine's best guerilla warfare techniques. Isis was less successful but Ukraine has a lot more capital to make "off the shelf" solutions more meaningful. Just look around. Plenty of private organizations are selling mass organized drones which use various ML models to target individuals. Either for finding a person in a forest fox hole or for searching a town for a particular individual.

Eg: this random company I found on Google

  • I disagree. The number of "stuff" is important for RPGs. If you could only pick up "important" things, the game would have no real balance of mystery. Every meaningful item would obviously be useful in some mission or goal. I like it better where the stuff is plentiful and the mystery/puzzle is: can I use this? Can I use this generic poison in this giant pot of booze? Can I use this person's hand?

I feel like the puzzle is sort of beneficial by hiding important items or clever usages of boring items in the midst of all the guff.

I get why it's annoying but I think it adds to the games charm.

  • No problem. I just wanted to see that list cause I couldn't tell who federated with hexbear or not.

  • I've had no major issues with my Ubuntu distro. Snap updates work without closing any software - as far as I know. I just tested a snap refresh, but I didn't have any out-of-date software.

I would argue I push the boundaries of common Ubuntu usage as well. I have 8TB of mixed HDD and SSD storage which I use for gaming, Unity development, Blender, Plex server, and random programming projects (e.g. k8s cluster work). I don't have any major issues.

People complain a lot about Ubuntu and I just don't get it. It's a good software for the average consumer, in my opinion. My wife uses it for her computer and has pretty much no issues.

I do want to switch to Linux Mint someday since people are adamant that it's better than Ubuntu but I think I'll stick with Ubuntu since I've setup so many things on this machine and I don't want to redo this work.

  • I have no idea how you've run into so many issues. People shit on Ubuntu here but I've always used it as a "Mac OS alternative" since the flavor feels similar. My wife uses it all the time and has very few issues. The only issue we run into is Bluetooth, but I have Bluetooth issues with every OS I've ever used: Android, MacOS, Windows, etc.

  • Americans have been fighting each other in the Senate since the beginning. People used to cane each other in Congress.

  • Oh that's true. I guess we have to allow for displacement. If that's the case, yeah I want this power 100%. Spam teleport. I could destroy anything in the world just with displacement. I could punch a hole through tanks just by teleporting. And if I have no "cool down" when teleporting I could level entire armies. I could teleport once every nanosecond even bullets that are timed to hit me down to the nanosecond would only penetrate my body a small amount before I teleport and displace them.

  • Definitely impale

  • Definitely impale

  • I'd pick teleport but I'm afraid of the splicing consequences.

I'd rather just see inside empty objects. I'm sure I could use this in some circumstances. Being able to "know" if a box is empty or not could be perceived as super natural. There is probably a lot of money in that. Plus, a lot of gambling opportunities in things like that cup game. What defines a container? That could change things.

Controlling any toaster with my mind is ambiguous. I'll assume it only works on toasters with power. So I can only turn them on/off to make toast. I could use this power to destroy countries. Power draw of a toaster isn't too bad, but every toaster being turned on at the same time might damage an energy sector. It would take a while to debug as well.

    I like the free gravel.

I think I'd pick free gravel and... Seeing inside empty objects. Seems like the most profitable with the least chance of a monkeys paw.

  • It depends. Is 7" measured from the center of my body to the next location? Or is it measured from the tip of the front of my body and the back of my body will end up 7" away from that position? Because the former would likely be useless for breaking into places. My body would make up the majority of the travel distance. I basically would only have 1"-3" or teleport distance to work with. Most walls wouldn't even work.

As someone else said, if I could spam the teleport command, then it would be great. Then I could travel across oceans and such. But I'd have to be careful to not transport myself inside of a boat's hull and get spliced.

The gravel would be great though. With an unlimited supply, I'd just create a turbine which is turned by an unlimited amount of gravel pouring over it. The gravel would have to end up somewhere... Can't just leave it on earth. So I would ask countries - in exchange for the free energy - to build a space elevator/launching mechanism. The gravel would be launched into space towards the sun. This would be a problem in a few million or billion years. I'd accelerate the death of the sun by increasing its mass or maybe my gravel would add too many sunspots. Idk. But who cares. By then we will be space faring. One major issue is I'll die in 50 years give or take. So I'll need to spend most of my time spawning a surplus of gravel somewhere so the governments of the world can continue turning the turbine? Idk. That's a big problem.

Maybe I'd just start a construction company.

  • Totally nerfs that power. I'll go with the free gravel.

  • What's wrong with Ubuntu in general?

  • Clowns are notorious for fitting many people in small vehicles.
