AM radio? Anyone who is listening to that probably doesn’t have a phone to call anyone about it, inside their Mad Max bunker.

The timing is probably just coincidence. He probably submitted a bug bounty weeks or months earlier and it just now got included in release notes. 

I use Downie (on Mac) but there’s a video downloader app for every platform. It doesn’t download the ads either 😉

That helped a LOT.

When Google’s shut down I switched to Feedly. They even imported my Google settings so there was no downtime. I’ve been paying for their Pro version ever since. It’s a really good app!

I mean, that’s what they get for trusting a post on Xitter.

I would bet a lot of these purchases are people who are hoping to build something for it and cash in on the first wave of adopters. I know a lot of developers that have bought one as a business expense … or “business expense”.

Love this idea. Hope it stays focused on things that are positive.

Rachio is supposed to have a local API coming soon. The Smart Hose hardware is great quality and I’m happy with their app in the meantime. Waiting to see how they open the integration before I commit heavily.

But it should drive cars? Operate strike drones? Manage infrastructure like power grids and the water supply? Forecast tsunamis?

I know those kind of motorized vents are used in commercial HVAC. (Here’s a white paper on a stepper motor for one https://www.portescap.com/en/newsroom/whitepapers/2021/10/customized-and-reliable-stepper-motors-for-damper-applications )

A stepper would be the easiest thing because if you know it takes 10 steps to fully open from fully closed, you could keep track of how many steps you have sent each direction in Home Assistant and be able to display the current status. 

If you want a knob on the wall that controls this, I think somewhere behind it you are still going to need a control system that translates wall switch inputs into stepping logic. Home Assistant would be able to do that easily. 

So much this! None of it is worth our time. The Hollywood capitalism machine has just gotten really good at making people believe that every film or show is going to be the next important cultural touchstone and if you don’t see it you will be left out. But after it goes off the air and people stop talking about it, none of it really mattered. “Fast content” is like “fast fashion” - designed to be disposable and to keep consumers paying for it over and over.
