  • I want a game that has the primary gameplay loop of FTL, but with a choose your path role playing game like Fallout behind it instead of a roguelike.

As Yahtzee Croshaw says, it has the most Star Trek "Target their weapons systems! Damage control to the engine room! Transfer power to the shields!" effect, but I kinda wish you were more able to choose where you want to explore, have a little more agency in quests...

Most quests in FTL follow the format of:

A space thing is happening! Do you:

    • Send in a crewmate to help (50/50 chance of succeeding and getting a reward, or failing and taking damage/losing a crewmate)
    • With them luck and fly away (guaranteed nothing happens)
    • (blue text) use special equipment (guaranteed chance of a nice reward, if you have the equipment/resource/type of crew aboard)

So you don't have a lot of agency in the kinds of quests you want to explore. A lot of beginner quests happen to you a lot (how many times have we all done the giant alien spiders one) and in a lot of cases you don't have the blue text options available, so you get to choose "do nothing" or flip a coin. And then you have to face the ship at the end, which a lot of the builds that are kicking ass up to that point just can't face the end boss.

I want a longer term roleplaying game under these primary mechanics.

  • About the only thing I can think of would be a sign at the height of the crash bar that says "If you hit this sign you'll hit that bridge" but given the kind of people we've been allowing to survive childhood for the last 80 years that also probably wouldn't work.

  • Known better? Probably.

    Cared better? Absolutely not.

Imagine the caliber of person it takes to neglect a golden retriever to death.

  • 0F - 100F is about the range of most of Earth's weather, if Earth's weather is outside that range, such as at the poles or Death Valley, being in the environment itself is an emergency.

  • Okay so.

Skibidi toilet is -- or started out as -- a Source Filmmaker Youtube poop. The first few videos were some heads popping out of toilets kind of nope.avi style while, if you'll pardon the double entendre, scat singing.

This somehow got spun up into a multi-part war drama. I must reiterate: Somehow. The word "skibidi" has entered the iPad kid generation's lexicon as either a nonsense word, a word meaning "nonsense" or I think I've heard it used the way Bill & Ted would use the word "bogus".

  • "Insert from other end"

  • I like that the stripes on a tabby's arms line up.

  • I don't think there's anything that could make a crater like that on Earth. Like, an impact big enough to leave a crater that big would render the entire crust splashy enough to fill it back in.

  • I am reminded of a comedian...I believe he was Iranian-American or something like that, muslim background, travels for work as a stand-up comedian. Some three letter agency wanted him to check in every now and again to let them know what he was doing. So he would send them everything he could. Every byte of data he could generate, dinner receipts, pictures of plane tickets, episodes of TV shows he watched, video of himself walking down the street...

  • Once again I'll say, I'm perfectly fine with the death of the essay as viable school homework.

In my experience, teachers graded only on grammar and formatting. Teaching - and more to the point, grading - effective writing skills is harder than nitpicking punctuation, spelling and font choices, so guess what happens more often?

You want school to mean anything, you're going to have to switch to verbal or demonstrable skills instead of paperwork. Which society probably needs to do anyway.

  • One or two versions before they included it by default, I wrote a Nemo Action to launch the monitor settings dialog in the right click menu when you right click the desktop.

  • Probably not. Actually.

  • I'm not convinced dating apps work for anyone in any way.

  • Movie previews make sense to see before a movie. "Here are some other movies you might like to see later."
