  • Everyone is picking the lesser of two evils in our electoral system. If you view abortion as the killing of nearly a million babies a year, what is that evil held up to the evil trump commits? If it was actually babies, I think even most democrats would pick Trump over the party that wants to be allowed to kill a million 1 month olds. Most people just don't view those as the same thing.

  • "Bobo gonna try" I think the main part that falls into AAVE. A more standard English form would be like, "Bobo is gonna try." But AAVE will often drop the auxiliary verbs from phrases. Another example would be "I seen you" instead of "I've seen you."

  • I think the second sentence makes it not. If the guy didn't have a really good reason for doing so, the other people on the plane wouldn't have supported his actions. It's clickbaity. But the title to me makes it sound like the guy might be a hero.

  • Not really. Unless you want to argue that people who preferred Bernie wouldn't vote for her in the general because they preferred Bernie in the primary. But I kind of suspect those people wouldn't have liked her even if Bernie didn't run.

  • Do yours freak out when you put your re-usable bags in the bagging area even when you tell it you're using 4 of your own bags? Or have two barcodes on packages and if the wrong one scans (either because you aren't sure which needs to be scanned or because they're next to each other and you don't get a gun), you need a cashier to override? Or have weight sensors that are just wrong about how much items should weigh? Or only have enough room for like 2 bags of groceries but it isn't ok to take any out of the bagging area?

    I don't think it's just customers.

  • People generally expect you to have an excuse, though. Otherwise, you get your one baby shower (only the first baby!) and anything else is tacky. I think that's why gender reveals caught on so fast. The parents and, maybe, grandparents are grasping at excuses to celebrate. And why people find them so cringe in general. Everyone else is a bit annoyed you're getting more than your one party.

  • I'm not sure your explanation really argues that gender is entirely a social construct. You identify strongly as being a woman. It doesn't matter how many things you do that society views as masculine. You innately feel like a woman. So it isn't an identity that society really defines. There's something more to it.

  • You can decide all clovers have 3 leafs. That doesn't mean 4 leaf covers stop existing or are wrong.

You can decide "but" is only for contradictions. That doesn't mean people won't use it other ways or it's wrong.

You can decide all men have penises. That doesn't mean some won't or that's wrong.

You deciding shit doesn't actually change reality. And being pissy about it is as idiotic as suing 4 leaf clovers for you thinking they should only have 3 leafs.

  • It isn't some herculean task unless you have bad social anxiety. Mentioning it at the customer service desk as you walk in to do your shopping is probably less effort than taking a picture and posting it here.

  • Black communities were not hesitant because... other forms of health care cost a lot of money.

This was not the issue with the health care system being pointed out. It's that the health care system is fine with harming you if it will result in making them money. The opioid epidemic has hit many of these conservative communities hard. It's not assigning some heroic intentions to them. It's simple mistrust of something they know doesn't give a damn about them.

  • You're so steeped in a Christian culture, you seem not realize it. Just like there are atheistic Jewish people, who participate and identify with Jewish culture, there are large swaths of people who are atheists but participating in Christian culture. I don't think anyone would seriously argue that passover isn't a religious holiday even if many atheists are celebrating it.
