  • Haven't played anything these last several days, save a little bit of Cogmind. I don't really enjoy traditional roguelikes, because there's usually no real incentive to play them (i.e. story, atmosphere, engaging gameplay etc.), and, honestly, I just suck at them lol. But I do keep coming back to that one, because it's just so immersive! And, for some reason, I get Blame! vibes from it; I guess it's because of the whole abandoned facility full of robots thing.

Some other things I'm planning to do:

    • I've finished the main story of Yakuza 0 and now plan to do the remaining substories. After that, I'll finally move on to Kiwami
    • Finished one ending of Lunacid, and will try to get to the rest (plus collect all the weapons and magic rings). While I tried my best to not use wikis or guides (so as not to spoil the secrets), I think this time I'll probably need one. Well, FromSoft and FromSoft-inspired games really do be like that lol
  • Tried looking for a full feature list, couldn't find any. Makes sense, tho, because it would probably be massive.

I've tried SoH before, and my favourite features are 60 FPS gameplay and gyro aiming. It also has a bunch of enhancements like time savers (faster test speed, "Better Owl", time travel using the Song of Time, etc.), alternate assets (= mod support!), bunch of fixes and cut gameplay restoration. If you stream, it also has Crowd Control support. It even has a co-op mode now lol. As for the randomizer stuff, it has an item and check tracker, and a lot of settings for it.

I recommend you just check it out yourself or, alternatively, watch some video on YT that goes more in-depth on the features

  • Played it a little bit (up to the goblin fort part), was pretty neat. Fights take a long ass time to resolve, but you can get pretty creative with them.

Now, this might be a personal thing, but the game somehow doesn't really have that fantasy feel? It's like playing Mass Effect with a fantasy paint coating over it, rather than playing an actual fantasy game. I hope I'm making sense here, lol. From my point of view, a work of fiction with a good fantasy atmosphere is all about that personal tranquil, solemn journey rather than bombastic adventures, romance or whatever. It's the kind of mood that you get while listening to dungeon synth -- a genre directly inspired by classic fantasy. Lunacid is a good example of what I am talking about.

Another point of contention for me is the disk size of the game. Now that I have more of disk space available to me, I could give it another chance, though

  • I had a Sony portable CD player that I used to use for listening to audiobooks as a kid. It also had an inline remote with a screen. One notable feature it had was custom screen messages (dunno why you would need one tbh). Nothing beats setting the remote so that there was an ASCII dick on the screen all the time, and then have your dad give you the look of disappointment afterwards.

At some point the remote was lost, and the laser assembly broke. I miss that player dearly
