  • Same.

Although I like to recommend RSS. 'Social " media is overrated. If people are looking for content them just subscribe directly to the source.

  • Have you not lived through the political shit show we've had? Brexit, COVID scandals, Boris Johnson, Farage, stagnating wages, poor productivity, inflation, high energy prices, NHS in crisis, housing shit show.....and there's no end in sight. Think the UK hasn't been doing that badly is quite a willful refusal to see how we compare to the rest of the world and where we could have been if we functioned better.

  • I've got a G502 and couldn't get Piper to work. Are there particular permissions I need to give it in Flatseal?

  • I sold my laptop last year and it took me 2 months for me to find the PC parts I wanted. I've got nothing exciting to report. I used the Steam Deck as my full time PC for 2 months and it worked perfectly for home use and as a virtual workstation for remote logon for work. This basically gave me the confidence to move to Linux fulltime and I put OpenSUSE on my PC by the time I got it built.

I still have to use my wife's windows laptop for some hardware peripheral settings (my GP2040-CE custom controller, Logitech mouse macro button settings, gamesir controller), but overall using the Steam Deck fulltime was a good experience.

  • You can put down a small tub or mug to catch the room temp water to use for something else. I run water into a mug and use that to wash my kid's asses after their bedtime poop. I mix bubble bath into the remaining room temp water in the mug for the kids to play with when showering. Then they can get straight into the tub and warm water will come from the showerhead right away.

There are tons of uses for the room temp water.....water plants, fill the iron, fill the floor mop bucket, etc.

  • I'm in the same position as you. I haven't found a good solution. I just keep blocking each individual community when I come across it in the feed.

  • I don't think the point of the meme is to explain the real intended message of the song here.

  • I would be surprised if this mattered, but I don't know for sure. The more serious problem would be if your sent emails get caught in their spam filter.

  • Ever had to pull the trigger?

  • I use Brave search and that serves me well (although Lemmy really hates the founder of Brave and my comment is going to get a lot of downvotes). If you need to use google, then you can reduce the data gathering as much as possible by using startpage for google search results.

Degopgling isn't an "all-or-nothing" endeavour. Even if you start using google 20% less, then that's still progress and you can improve slowly over time.

  • Have you heard of "engagement optimised match making"? Have a look on YouTube.

  • It's OK. This is a shower thought. It doesn't need to stand up to rigorous scrutiny.

  • Your list could be applied to any business.

  • Lemmy seems to have a very strong voice for pushing people towards Linux.... But I don't hear nearly enough about ditching Google and other mega-corps. I started Degoogling long ago and have been really happy with the result. There are lots of alternatives and there's no reason to stick with Google the way people do. Your description of half-baked shitty products is their hallmark. Their bloody search doesn't even work well anymore and that's what the whole business got launched on.

Lemmy please strongly considering De-googling. It's quite easy for almost all services.

  • Oldest.

There's a podcast by Malcolm Gladwell where he says data shows the single best predictor of successful college application or success with college sports is your month of birth. Being oldest in the class comes as a huge advantage and is making many American families "red shirt" their child by putting them in school a year later; and this making them the oldest child in the class all the way through.

  • This just sounds more and more appealing. Count me in.

  • This community is literally called "no stupid questions". Don't worry about it.

  • What's the purpose of putting "Nobody:" in memes now? It never used to be in memes. It adds nothing. Am I too old to understand internet culture now?

  • Wife approval factor

My wife won't use it if she can't see an app for it to click on to start using immediately. Going through browsers is not an option. Not having a dedicated app on the LG TV is not an option. Not being able to find something instantly means instant rejection. She refused Plex, but now sometimes uses it and has learnt to find subtitles, etc by herself.

I don't touch my self hosted apps. If something doesn't behave properly on the first attempt then it gets rejected from our household. It's only for us enthusiast nerds to put up with kanky UI and setup issues for the sake of superior functionality. Normie's won't tolerate it.

  • no idea if that's true or not, just repeating what i heard someone say

    Aren't we all
