I know Elon is a complete piece of shit. But I can also acknowledge that Falcon, Dragon, Starlink, Starshield, and Starship are good for Americans.

It looks like the ones to make the call will be in the Department of Defense. And I can guess what they'll say.

We have limited viable locations in the US to launch rockets. Vandenberg is largely surrounded by farming communities. I'm sorry, but, like Boca Chica, the greater good comes from telling some people to pound sand.

You don't get the money from people visiting for launch support without there being launches. Lompoc, sorry, but you need the money.

The Ringwatcher write-ups are always incredibly well done.

This seems like a good step forward for the process. It's cool that this license is ready before the rocket, that it includes flexibility for certain kinds of failures, and has the option to repeat the launch profile. I'm sure a lot of work has gone in at both the FAA and SpaceX to make this happen.

Agreed, I've had some success using it essentially as a replacement for how I used to use Stackexchange, which is to remind me of a syntax or make a little function when I have to do some scripting once every few months, but I don't trust it for anything more than the basics.

Maybe they're trying to make horizontal commodity tanks after the vertical tank farm didn't work out for a mix of reasons?

That's a big honor for Falcon Heavy and a great win for SpaceX. Such a cool mission.

CLPS was supposed to build up the industrial base of landers to deliver this kind of thing, but SpaceX decided to step in and (TBD) beat them at their own game. Good win for SpaceX, stinks for Intuitive Machines, Astrobotic, etc.

Understood, but I'm asking why it wasn't an approved last ditch backup plan until now. Did they do more testing or sumulation recently? Is NASA more risk averse after Starliner and digging deeper into backup backups?
