  • It doesn't seem that way. After reading through the article a couple of times, it looks like the "no" they are referring to is regarding data recording of one's actual use of the assistant. And since I don't use the assistant and have completely disabled it, the shouldn't be any data to record.

Though I do have to admit that I may be completely off base in my interpretation.

  • I think you aren't that familiar with android. Android's main purpose is to collect as much information on you as possible. Google did not offer it up out of the goodness of their heart. It's integral to their data collection and resale business model.

  • CDC data from 2022 indicated that more than one in five U.S. adults under the age of 45 experienced symptoms of mental distress.

Must be the lack of personnel. Couldn't have anything to do with the global insecurity of rising inflation and low wage jobs coupled with the skyrocketing housing costs. Not to mention the whole "the earth is steadily getting hotter and extreme weather events are happening more and more frequently."

Yeah, let's invest in more AI that will fuck over the planet even more with colossal energy requirements and not even bother with making people more financially and socially secure.

  • Kamala actually won the popular vote too. By a fairly small margin, but she still got more actual votes than Trump. But then there's the electoral college... Our constitutional dinosaur that has now failed the American people 3 times in the last 7 elections.

Ok, apparently I'm working with out of date information. As late as January I was hearing reports that the popular vote was slightly in favor of Harris. But that appears to not be the case.

Then again, "Elon Musk, he knows those computers so well..." Who fucking knows. Not like Republicans are above breaking the law.

  • That's fine, billionaires do not add to an economy, they drain it. So if they leave it will remove a useless burden on the economy and whatever country is dumb enough to take them in can deal with them instead. Meanwhile, if they are pulling money from our country we can find ways to tax it and prevent them from draining our resources (and yes, money is a resource like any other).

  • I wish I had artistic talent. I would love to make a political cartoon of the Statue of Liberty holding a sing saying "You must be this color or lighter to enter" with a color chart X'ing out the brown and black colors leaving only white ones. With a caption stating this is the current republican immigration policy.

And to answer the inevitable: No, I refuse to use "AI".

  • Yeah a couple of weeks ago Google secretly activated Gemini on every Pixel user's phone. I ran into the same problem, my phone suddenly activated and Gemini popped up interrupting a song that I was playing while I was away from my phone. Ended up screwing up the song and having it repeat over and over and over.
