  • One thing I really like about the depiction of the Kaylon is that, as far as I remember, nobody ever suggests that they were wrong to kill their builders, only to generalize their hatred of those builders to all organics.

  • As early as episode 3 they were trying to do serious storylines, and as early as episode 4 they were succeeding. I think it was always intended to be real Trek with the serial numbers filed off but sold to Fox and consequently advertised as a parody.

    Anyway, the pak protectors are a concept from Larry Niven's known space setting. They're a hypothetical final life stage of humans which do not reproduce but which posess greatly enhanced intelligence and strength which serve the evolutionary function of protecting their bloodline.

    The suggestion is that gorn adults work similarly, protecting and guiding the breeding life stage of gorn.

  • Starman Jones is the most extreme example of that I know of. They have slipstick boys to do their FTL math and the MC's special ability is that he memorized all the log tables and so he can do the math faster.
