  • Oh, my primary diet is beans, quinoa, nooch, and almond milk. Snacking is popcorn with, evoo, and Kernel Seasonings (tm).

I still eat meat not infrequently, but not everyday, and I rarely prepare it for myself. Still, I should avoid it more. It's unnecessary, and even just a couple of years ago, I ate it less of it.

The food I cook for my family does involve the maillard reaction for some of it (salmon patties, roasted veg, french fries, lasagna, pasta w/ meat sauce). I pressure cook the chicken and rice, so I think that mostly avoids maillard. I only eat on the family food to clean it out of the fridge when I don't think it's worth serving to anyone else.

    Thank you for your concern.

  • The "othering" of opponents is how human deal with conflict and prepare themselves for violence since time immemorial.

Dehumanization is a really slippery second step. Fascists aren't the only people that find themselves doing it.

This isn't meant as an excuse, just an explanation. IMO, this fatal shooting is not an act to be celebrated.

  • Since the Maillard reaction and all its VOCs are the most likely source of meat-related cancer risk, I will gladly eat pink (but safely cooked) meat. In fact the center pink bits are my favorite parts a traditionally cooked steak / prime rib.

  • The information I have says sous vide is not as good as a "standard" reverse sear in an oven. But, I haven't tried either.

My experience is that the "crust" on meat is entirely optional, and while I don't aggressively avoid it, I don't seek it out when I am preparing my own meat.

  • The few times I have prepared meat while trying to minimize the maillard reaction, it was still quite tasty.

That said, I agree that cancer risk is relative, and you can't avoid all risk, even if you are happy to try.

I hear sous vide steak can be quite tasty.

  • Wire (https://wire.com/) uses the same OTR / double-ratchet encryption primitives as Signal, but focuses more on self-hosting, and supporting organizations that want to self-host (for whatever reason).

I believe GNU Jami, well-deployed is capable of Signal's level of security while being self-hosted.

  • We don't have to respect their opinions. (In fact we should vigorously and completely reject them.)

We do have to respect that they are human, and they deserve human rights, whatever those are -- the ones we wouldn't deny a diagnosed and self-identifying sociopath.

We can deny them power, even some freedom, but not their humanity, even as they deny ours or others.

  • Don't boost it. If it violates your instance's rules (e.g. it's a scam), report it. Unfollow people that boost it. Mute/block the poster or their content.

I don't mind seeing it, and I don't think it is a problem (yet).

Agree that caution is warranted for any request of funds, whatever the requestor wants to call it.

  • I grey-listed px-cdn.net and a couple of related things in UBO and was able to get in. It's not worth it. Article summary: "They used glue instead of welds/bonds/clips, and the glue is turning brittle and separating from the steel when it flexes (sometime simply due to temperature change)." More details: "It occurs more frequently, the higher the VIN."

  • As an American, I'd like the boycott to be more targeted. But yes, every company that licks the boots of this obviously fascist regime should see no more sales. I don't have a full list, but it includes at least Meta, Alphabet (Google), and Amazon.
