  • Often they don't. If more granular permissions were to be used. Hklm/programdata needing admin to do anything in it for example. Putting permissions on hklm/software/package to write is enough to make a lot of software work without opening up the whole system.

  • I disagree, the watchman and clones existed into the 2000s and were tech found in several households. Ours ended up with some of the tornado kit so we could get news broadcasts in power outages and other emergencies.

Gimmick/niche isn't an appropriate description for technology that was superceded by smartphones, even early ones.

  • I've talked about in in several other posts regarding gun control.

The rampant media sowing fear is poison. It's the culture that's being fostered that's more dangerous than the guns. "Fuck around and find out" and "come try and take them" keeps reinforcing that guns are a totally normal thing to use to solve problems.

  • It was scary. But my mortgage itself isnt too bad. The amortization schedule was scarier, as the first several years you're almost paying just interest. And you get to see just how much it costs over the total life of the loan.

But I like my house, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I can enjoy doing the fixes myself, and cry when things are so expensive to repair. There are so many things I want to do, but can't afford to at the moment.

I am really enjoying getting my yard they way I want. And it's even nicer to have a place that my girlfriend and her daughter can move in.

The house has appreciated 10% in the last two years. And as inflation keeps happening, it devalues the loan. The money I owe is worth less and less and the property I own is worth more and more. At least in general, that's how it should work.

Property taxes are pricey, but I'm happy with paying them for what I get in the city and neighborhood I'm in.

  • give loyalty

See, this is where we differ. I am not loyal to Biden. I would support someone else in a heartbeat, have supported others instead of him.

I am not loyal to him, nor the Democratic party. I am, however, strongly against Trump and practically everything he does and stands for. To that end, I have to do what I can to see that he not be in a position of power again. To that end, I will vote against him, even if that means a. Vote for Biden.

  • Not voting does nothing. It doesn't show that you disagree, it doesn't prevent things from happening.

It is the ultimate inaction that agrees with the status quo. As fucked as the two party system we have is, not engaging with it still let's it perpetuate. You can't just wash your hands of the system with some dreams and wishes that inaction causes change. No one, and I truly fucking mean no one, is counting the people who don't vote.

If you want to cause change, then marches, protests, and disruptions are the tools. Not sitting idly by while others make their opinions heard. Until we have a voting reform, this is the tool we have. So work towards changing or replacing that tool with something better. But don't think not using it will somehow make a difference.

Edit: ah fuck, it's this right wing conservative account that keeps popping up. I should block you, but it's better to have opposing viewpoints and be able to respond than it is to allow you to speak without debate.

  • That's why they have permitting processes that include route inspections, filed routes, and planning. Depending on the load they might have police escorts to basically shut down the roads following the load.

Big stuff has to be moved sometimes and things can go to extreme lengths to make it happen. If they don't go on public roads, how else can things be moved?

In LA they moved a giant boulder to the LA County Museum of Art that had a whole documentary around it.

Then the amount of work put in to move the space shuttle. They had to move street lights and power lines out of the way. There can be so much coordination to move big loads.

  • Well, it seems like this would be a super load in Texas. So pilot and trailing cars at least. With a route inspection ahead of time and permits. It would also probably be extra likely to be inspected by highway patrol. I can't speak to Texas, but a load like this in California would usually have police escorts and probably even basically shut down the freeways during it's travel and cars wouldn't be able to pass.

It's not like those pilot and trailing cars have any real enforcement for other drivers, though. They'll be in contact with the truck driver to let him know what's around him and the trucks position especially around corners.

Securing a load is usually ultimately on the driver and his CDL. That driver is going to be having a very bad day. It's hard to say how much they will go after the company, because this is an unusual load.
