  • Basically that phone was a continuous hand me down. My dad, a construction worker, bought it for himself, hence the cement mixer. Then, he managed to get a phone plan with insurance, so if it broke at work he wouldn't have to pay for another phone. And the s5 got handed over to my mom. Where the pasta sauce happened.

Last. It got handed to me. A wee kid that was starting to dabble into the deeper side of IT. And thats were the rooting came from.

That phone is a trooper. And i genuinely miss when phones were not as fragile as tissue paper.

  • Galaxy s5. That phone fell twice in boiling pasta sauce, survived falling in a cement mixer. And managed to not get corrupted by 13 y.o. me rooting a phone for the fist time. No replacements parts other than a new battery. It still fucking runs.

  • Little macro running on my phone, that as soon as my smartwatch gets out of range, it locks the screen. Add the ability to format via wasted remotely, and we are set. The only way to disable internet/ actvate airplane mode is to insert the password if the screen is locked. Also I've never checked, but if graphene has a dead man's switch, not even poweing off would keep the data intact.

  • Btw if you are familiar with, or already use f droid. adaway is a pretty nice way to stop ads system-wide. It will occupy the vpn connection, since it's how it forces ads to not load. But it's pretty nice.

(Also, be careful with the vpn being set as always on. I had phones that set it like that automatically, anf after uninstalling the app. The phone still expected to connect through a dead vpn, preventing internet access altogether. Fun :p)
