  • Oh no, I didn't really shop there but they had one in my very rural town I grew up in.

It's a shame, I suppose Kmart was too competitive at the budget price-point.

  • Ps. Sorry if this is none of my business

You're free to speak about it, you can also disagree if you feel differently about anything.

  • When you click in the app, I believe it redirects you to your local instance where it is already removed.

  • The comments I saw were fairly serious directed attacks towards another user, even if they were in the heat of the moment.

There was enough to understand why the user deleted their account in the moment, I had to consider permaban before settling with a tempban on just this occasion.

  • Thank you for that, I have taken a look at them with greater context of what was being discussed in yesterday's thread.

We hadn't dealt with this kind of issue from regulars that I have seen from my notifications or the modlog until now, I would have preferred Baku had reported your comments so that I could have actioned them when I came online at midnight.

Part of the issue may have been my lack of participation in the daily discussions themselves, so I haven't been as viewable as I should be, but I have been checking daily for months. It's important that we avoid letting these kinds of interpersonal issues feel like they aren't going to be actioned by the mods.

Your comments directed towards Baku appear to be targeted in a way that are absolutely against the community rules, the subject matter is allowed as we haven't barred specific topics from the daily, only the manner in which users talk to each other. I have yet to issue just a temporary band so far on this platform, so I am learning as I go.

Considering that part of this issue is the lack of established rules, penalties and more importantly the lack of assurance that I will action issues in due time, this isn't a permanent ban. You will be welcome back in 72hrs, knowing that I can't guarantee not issuing a permanent ban if an issue like this where to occur by yourself or another user in the future.

Today was a weird day for everyone, come back in 3 days and let's get back to normal appropriate behaviour. I will be looking at where I went wrong and hopefully have a community post in how we can avoid this in the future by the time you come back.

    Edit3: I have spoken to both Starchy & Baku in DM's, Baku didn't intend for the previous threads to go down and they are currently still publicly viewable here;

    https://sh.itjust.works/c/melbourne@aussie.zone

Edit4: It's looking like it may take 30 days for federated instance to scrap deleted account content, hopefully that is the case, and we can archive the daily's posted by Baku's account before they are completely gone.

  • It is looking like they deleted their account and comments, without seeing their comments I don't have a full picture of whether they said anything that would warrant a banning of future Baku accounts.

I haven't seen anything so far that was by you and targeted harassment toward other users.

  • That appears the case, I have access to deleted threads minus just Baku's comments.

  • Was the previous daily deleted by accident?

Edit: Baku's account isn't showing up.

The server returned this error: couldnt_find_person.

Following some research into yesterday's thread, which I still have access to minus Baku's comments which were deleted by their account at around midnight, it appears this is American election related.

I have no issue with free discussion and civil disagreements, I have no intention of over controlling discussion on this forum.

My main concern here is how the history of this groups previous dailies may have been impacted as a result of a user who had been posting the daily and I will need to start considering more appropriate means of posting dailies to avoid this kind of issue going forward.

As some of you may have noticed, I'm not too talkative most days and I mostly just check in at midnight if I am awake to make sure the previous daily ends and the new one begins. I don't have any reports to action, but I will need to have a look at the threads I personally have access to some more. But most importantly I am going to have to consider how to ensure a more consistent daily thread that is less likely to disappear, whether I can return it myself or not, etc.

Additionally, it's about time I start investigating Lemmy's bot mechanics, I was waiting to complete my current personal server migration to a complete hypervisor solution rather than utilising one of my already overworked Raspberry Pi's, I'll have to get on to this matter more quickly.

Edit2: It's starting to look like I will be unable to return the posts that where deleted as a result of Baku's account nuking, I do have personal access to all of them without their comments as it was actioned by me in featuring them, but the posts themselves where of the account that is now no longer available.

This makes it clear that I need to make some changes going forward in how the daily functions.

  • The iView stream was behind as well, fireworks outside at least 30s before.

  • Happy New Year, may this one be good to all.

  • OzBargain is often a good website to compare previous sale pricing for a Boxing Day discount.

  • I've been reading about white van concerns around town for a few weeks now.

  • I don't want to be too strict about the timing of the new daily, it's just that when people started getting earlier and earlier, we ended up having multiple and it was hard to choose which one to delete and which to keep.

I'd like to hear some feedback about what rule we should implement, that way we can avoid making people stay up unnecessarily.

I'm open to whatever is preferred by the community.

  • Sorry Seagoon_, yesterday someone had posted a daily a few hours early before yours, so I had to delete one of the two and chose yours to keep as it was closer to the day of the thread.

Didn't mean to make you feel like you had to wait until midnight, I was just explaining why I was deleting the first thread in favour of yours.

  • We'll go with this one, the daily threads have been creeping too far before the day they're for.

I'm fine with a little early, it's better than too late.

  • I wonder if aussie.zone will fall under the proof of age law now.

  • The Voyager app for Lemmy seems to be good now.
