  • For me, it’s not great. The web interface and apps I’ve used are kind of bad, there isn’t a lot of content in the topics I’m interested in. I’m mainly here because I refuse to go back to Reddit.

  • The Prusa mini gantry is solid. I have been printing on one for 2+ years and will vouch 100% that it’s extremely well built. The 20mm you’re missing is seriously not the issue you think it is. It is rare that I ever go to one of my larger printers with the Mini being such a reliable workhorse. (workpony?)

  • Prusa XL, 5 tool version

Oops I thought you wrote sub $5000.

I recommend the Bambu Lab A1 Mini. With or without the AMS. It’s a great size to get back into printing. I have the Prusa Mini and 180mm^3 is really all I need for most of my prints.

    • dry the filament - most filament is wet even if it is brand new
    • calibrate flow rate
    • calibrate first layer (nozzle height)

I rarely deviate from Prusa Slicer’s built in profile for Prusament and have great results. I would try drying the filament first if everything else is working well.

  • I don’t want to sound harsh, but I would suggest to figure out where you’re going wrong with the probe. Once set up properly, they take a lot of guess work out of getting the first layer right. I will never (willingly) use another printer without one.

  • you’re paying for the software

    Heaven forbid

I think it’s worth it in this case. Synology platform (as you must know) is far more than a storage solution and basically runs my entire home.

Can I get free versions of all of the tools included in DiskStation? Of course. Will I? Heck no

  • I installed and have been testing the new firmware with great results. I was a little disappointed that the bonkers benchy kind of cheated by using 5% infill, single exterior walls, and less top/bottom layers, but it was super satisfying watching the print head whip around. I need to refresh the bearings before I print too much else.

  • I enjoyed the concept of the book. I didn’t like being constantly reminded that Ryland Grace was a teacher as if I couldn’t remember that between chapters. There was way too much of this beating me over the head with simple science and reminders of things that happened earlier that it took me out of enjoying the story.

  • I agree with your first point, but pretty strongly disagree with the other two. Code review is critical. Devs should be discussing changes and design choices. One Dev can not be all things all the time and other people have experience you do not or can remind you of things you forgot. Programming language absolutely matters when you’re not the only dev on the team.

  • I used to think something like this when I was younger. I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for good gui versions of cli tools. I have come to understand that this is not usually the case and cli tools are more convenient much of the time. I would not classify this as superiority complex, unless I’m being a jerk about it. I don’t care what you use, I just use whatever has the lowest barrier to entry with the most standardization, which is usually the original cli tool.

That said, jetbrains git integration is awesome.
