  • screw NewYorkLife, but LLM's are definitely not bullshit technology. Some amount of skill in so-called 'prompt-engineering' makes a huge difference in using LLMs as the tool that they are. I think the big mistake people are making is using it like a search engine. I use it all the time (in a scientific field) but never in a capacity where it can 'lie' to me. It's a very effective 'assistant' in both [simple] coding tasks and data analysis/management.

  • exactly this - SEO (search engine optimization) is huge, just like "prompt engineering" is extremely valuable - and its quite different from SEO. I wouldnt think either is a full-time position but, but learning to effectively prompt and use LLM's is definitely a skill.

  • No link to a source in the article. I searched for it and found a CNBC article that posts a link to the "report" from the South Korean Data Protection Authority, but its a bad link. I dont read Korean so its difficult to search any further, but I found no evidence that the south korean authority made this claim.

  • Yea it seems like including Ni and Co as 'ferrous' materials is only done in certain industries/applications. From a pure chemistry point of view, only iron (Fe) is ferrous. [source: got bachelors in chem]. Also, as mentioned elsewhere, some people/industries [incorrectly] use the term 'ferrous' to mean magnetic, but the actual term is 'ferromagnetic'. Lots of the old terminology (lots of latin) is still used even though we now know they are technically incorrect.

  • This shit is so dumb. Americans clearly want to use drugs. A gov of the people should therefore make it as safe as possible. End this whole stupid talking point by legalizing and regulating. Black markets can never be stopped - they just evolve.

  • It is not new though, it started with Guantanamo concentration camp for Taliban fighters.

It is not new though, it started with 10 concentrations camps during World War 2 for Japanese Americans.

It is not new though, it started with concentration camps for the extermination and removal of the Native Americans

  • I try and give the general population a little more credit on these food issues - it appears to me that the main factor is time. People do not have enough time and energy to prepare every meal from whole fruits/veggies/whatever. Certainly laziness/lack of food education is an issue, but working eight hours plus an hour commute each way (like in the DC region) knocks out ten hours of your day already. Now adding on top of that the time it takes to think of a meal idea, purchase the goods, and prepare them, and this becomes an exhausting affair - one that never ends! And three meals a day? People need more free time to take care of themselves.

  • No not easily. The FDA media office is not a great example because they disseminate FDA information between the public and FDA officials, so no state would be able to take that over because...where would they get the info? But as far as states taking over the research labs - that is incredibly expensive. FDA is currently like 7 to 8 billion $ per year from the budget. I'm reading about the FDA right now though, and they do have lots of offices in many states and work with states on food safety and all that, so I guess each state could start its own small version of the fda. The waste/overlap that comes with having each state have its own little FDA would be ridiculous though

  • It seemed odd to me to that Shawn Fain would throw support behind tariffs, but it does make sense in this way: "free-trade" agreements allowed US mftr companies to move manufacturing outside the US, where they could pay employees way less while still charging huge markups while selling inside the us, and the c-suite pockets the surplus. The new tariffs ''supposedly' should encourage companies to bring manufacturing jobs back to the states, which is in line with the goals of the UAW - improve working conditions and encourage job growth in the auto sector in the US. So even if the real end result of the tariffs is that companies just continue to overcharge and screw people over and find ways to avoid paying fair wages (which is clearly whats going to happen), the alleged goals of the tariffs are in line with UAW goals...but its still bad optics for Shawn Fain to agree with Trump on anything for a siginificant amount of UAW members, especially since UAW now includes a lot of college/university/education/science sector members as well

  • VOA is/was a propaganda media broadcaster and does/did not provide aid. USAID provides/provided aid, and that aid was the carrot portion of the carrot and stick method favored by neolib imperialists. Gain influence with aid while ensuring US dominance over local natural resources and governments.
