Hi dev, got an update. As you said that's very strange as it is handled by browser, this make me think that it is a browser specific issue. I just found out that my default browser, Firefox, has a tendency to auto reload tab, - that explains it. I've installed addon to mitigate the issue - it seems to work.
As for implementing auto-cached as sync did, I can sense now that might be beyond your control as voyager relies on external browser to work.
I didn't know that Firefox for android will reload tab. That's why my voyager app keep reloading some images.
Anyway, for the time being, my immediate solution is to install 'Stop Auto Reload' addon (possible by using Firefox nightly custom add on collection). Still early to tell but so far it doesn't reload the images.
Your argument so one-sided that any non-sync users will categorized you as a fanboy. This new unwelcoming trend of categorizing Syncs users as fanboys and cultist has started to appear more and more in many posts of lemmy apps community. Why? Because you are not presenting the reality as seen by the general public.
The price is appropriate to the dev so it be able to provide a sustainable income for him due to the very niche market it serves. But for the apps market, for android or even iphone app store, the price is ridiculous.
We'll have to wait to see how is the strategic decision taken by the dev is the right one or will backfire. Can he not just keep his current users but also keep enticing new users with an app that is very good but expensive? Or will it deter any new interests for any potential paid-users that will end up migrating to other less-featured apps but cheaper? Or will other apps keeps up in-synced with Sync and be able to offer same features at cheaper prices, making Sync's prices to be even more ridiculous? The future will tell.
This is it. No other apps had got there yet. Connect and infinity are not as smooth as Sync., e.g. example it can't load images as fast as Sync. And the UI is cluttered, eg posts views - the look is not just as good. I know it because I've tried many these apps to as replacement to Sync. But till now, can't find any as good (to my taste) as Sync. So I'll stick with Sync, for now at least.
Quite good. If you allow criticism, one particular feature that needs improvment is the smoothness of image loading. Images (in particular) and posts took quite awhile to load. Even for some images, when they have already been loaded and displayed, if I go back and then forward, the app will try to reload the images that have already been displayed before. By right, the images should've already been cached and will load straight away.
This is what I find strangely interesting with Sync, which you can take as a benchmark. The image load very fast, even at the first loading. None of the apps that I tried, e. g. liffoff and infinity can even load (half?) that fast. If you can find a good algorithm to load the images, it will help increase user experience tremendously.
At some point of time , peopla got excited and paid in drove for Ultra. It signalled a good sign and that might fueled his decision to charge higher.
I nearly bought it, but the come to my senses of how pricy it is. I really like Sync, it's the smoothest app out there. But, I'll wait a bit long, and for Boost - to see how it compares in terms of features and pricing. I might be on a double exodus - first from Reddit and then from Sync.
BTW, I can't reply to the other (kbin) user comment. Not sure if it is a bug. So I'll paste it here.
You have a point. Anyway, by doing so he will only be targeting a very niche group of users of an already very niche market. The move will definitely help to satisfy the needs of this small number of users but I doubt it will help the expand Lemmy's market. I expect, which I could definitely be wrong, Sync market share will become stagnant for the coming future. Other apps will learn from this fiasco and offers much more reasonable pricing models, which in turn will hurt Sync more.. Just my 5 cent.
yep. same with me - been using it since the early days.
I think ljdawson has been listening too much to his fanboys at the discord. They've been suggesting steep subscribing and one-off prices. I can't believe the dev follow it through.
Not everyone has the same level of income as these fanboys. Just imagine, the price is already steep in the US, and Europe - how about for those who have to pay in average 3-5 times more due to exchanged rate? Crazy price. Anyway, we'll see.
