  • Friv.com has a simple UI that's fairly kid safe. Just throw /old at the end of the URL to get the better, older UI. The new one is kinda meh. Friv doesn't have a lot of games, but enough to keep you entertained for a while every now and then. Its' biggest strength was always the simple UI. No accounts, comments, ratings, anything. Only games.

I love that Ruffle exists, it makes so many of these good old flash games sites great again!

  • Well Ubisoft's stock has tanked hard over the years as they've been doing shady things.

I've been very tempted to try their new Assassins Creed, but hey, I've managed to refrain from doing so.

I tried to sign that petition but for some reason I couldn't. Don't remember why.

  • At the same time you could argue that his decisions have affected billions of people on this planet in a negative way and the fifty million lives saved were to whitewash everything else he's done. He's not doing it out of the kindness of his heart, he did it because 1) Melinda told him she'd fuck off if he kept being such a jackass, and 2) As one of the most hated men in the world, he needed to fix his image.

  • Singular they had existed for centuries before your miserable existence.

It's a way to refer to someone in the 3rd person without knowing their gender. If you do know their gender, you can use the proper gendered pronouns.

Not only ‘the’ for all sexes

'The' has always been gender neutral in English because English doesn't assign gender to nouns. Thus grammatically, a gender-specific "the" isn't necessary unlike in German or Spanish where all nouns have grammatical genders. And if you come back at me with "'the' isn't even that old, it used to be spelled 'ye'", well the problem there is that it was only printed that way for convenience, the pronunciation was never with a "y".

"It" is incorrect for using about a person as well, unless referring to a baby or a small child. Why? It's just how English has been spoken for a long time now, and how it's still used. Language rules should reflect usage, not the other way around.

  • I was pointing out that it's not only Apple users who pay out the ass for their phones. It transcends brand loyalty. Everyone is spending too much on phones and will continue to do so even if prices rise.

  • The Galaxy S series and the Pixel devices cost about the same tbh, with some of the foldable models being particularly expensive. Buying way too much phone isn't exclusive to Apple users. Apple is just clever by not really providing an entry-level priced phone. It's both a scumbag move to make more money, but also a way to make sure that inferior devices providing an inferior experience don't ruin their rep.

  • Oh he's a nerd for sure, just one whose ego outsizes his nerdyness by far.

He's considered an average self-taught programmer by skill, but started fairly early because of his interest in computers. There's also no way he started SpaceX purely for profit, he had to actually be very interested in space because it was a money pit for a looong time.

I think he went from wanting to make the world a better, more efficient place via tech in the 90s and early 00s, to having a savior complex where he thinks he's the smartest man to ever have existed, and only he can save the entire world. His goals required him to make a lot of money, and the very same money completely changed him.

That's not to say he wasn't always an asshole with a superiority complex, it's just that there quite likely was more to him than just the pursuit of money and power... But having plenty of both silenced any actual human part of his personality.

  • IIRC the profit margins are no longer even close to what they used to be. They're now estimated to cost between 400 and 700 dollars to make depending on the specs. Used to be what, 75 dollars?

The fact is, the hardware side is economically pretty comparable to high end Android devices. Those are going to go up in price and so are iPhones.

Google and Apple of course have the app store fees as a sweet source of income, so they have an advantage compared to Samsung.

  • The sad part is there's almost certainly demand for an app that would let you remote start your car and use other built-in features without the associated tracking, but unfortunately the only way a 3rd party app can do it without installing an expensive 2 way alarm system or similar device, is by using the manufacturer's APIs, which means the car has to be connected to the manufacturer :/

  • Well the civil war wouldn't be 98.5% vs 1.5%. I reckon it would be fairly even, maybe even a bit more on the anti-Trump side, despite the fact that some people might not agree with violence. If forced to pick sides, I reckon most will stay on the same side of the political spectrum they're already on.

    However

I agree that civil war should be avoided. But at the same time I recognize some amount of violence may be required in the end, to have a true "liberation day" for Americans. Trump's not stepping down as long as he's alive and free.
