  • Most of the listed foods don't have much taste on its own. And nobody should eat them unprepared. RememberTheApollo_ described it well. But spices are a thing. With them you can transform them into culinary experiences.

Combine chickpeas with cumin, lemon juice, olive oil, tahini/peanut butter and garlic: delicious nurturing Hummus.

Combine chickpeas with parsley, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, pepper and sesame seeds: mouth watering falafel.

Combine tomatopaste, oliveoil and spices to get a nice base for frying crumbled tofu (a complete protein) to emulate ground meat.

With all the dried food it's important to prepare them correctly (rinse, soak, cook) to get rid of plant toxins like phasin, solanin, oxalates or arsenic.

E.g. a study found out the best way to prepare natural rice. Peeled rice doesn't contain much arsenic but natural/brown rice may contain it in its shell (amounts vary by its country of origin).

  • Chickpeas, soyflakes, rice, hemp & chia seeds, quinoa, tofu, lentils, flour. Most of the dried goods have a shelf life of 1-2 years. The cost of them is sinking in germany. I'm fine with people complaining about rising cost of meat, eggs and dairy and ignoring that fine sources of protein, minerals and vitamins. More for me.

  • The browser login of my bank needs a separate application that's windows only or an app. The Java(!) application Jameica saved my ass for the 6 years I'm on Linux now. It can manage multiple accounts. It offers statistics, saves all the transfers, deposits and balances ad infinitum on your disk, is searchable and has templates and schedules for transfers.

The protocol my bank uses is FinTS, I think. I'm logging in via a certificate file and a password.

I don't want to use an app, cause I trust my cutting edge Linux (Kernel 6.7.6) a lot more than my possibly malicious app riddled outdated android.

  • Hey maybe a bit close minded view there? I'm a millenial and I cheer for gen z (extinction rebellion, FFF) all the time. You have all the right to hate those who don't see the multitude of extreme problems they left for you. I'm antinatalist, vegan and try to reduce, reuse, recycle. Degrowth all the way. Use my bike where I can. My car is barely moving now and I need to get rid of it. I listen to a lot of music from gen z artists. Since I've gone vegan my whole body is energized to the max and I'll fight the cleptocracy on social networks where I can. I detest Zucks recent endeavours as a bull fharmer. Hang in there. We got your backs.

  • I hope you can accept my apology. I just was in a very agravated mood because of all the ignorance on xitter. We're try trying to make people less dumb there on multiple fronts and I think we starting to reach people in the last days and they change their stance.

I never watched IT Crowd, but I'm a big fan of Always Sunny, The Office and Arrested Development. I hope there'll be times when I can enjoy those again and be in a better mood.

  • And it's more ethical and environmentally friendlier than Lithium-Ion, right?

Norway has just started a deep sea excavation for cobalt and copper which as I understand (I'm clueless) can be omitted from sodium-ion batteries. The excavation is roughly of the size of equador and will take place in an area that may contain previously unknown lifeforms and critically endangered eco-system.

A paragraph of an article seems to show their non-chalance regarding the ecosystem impacts and unknown side-effects:

"The Norwegian government recognizes that it can’t be sure any mining would be sustainable—it’s not been able to determine the likely environmental impact of extracting minerals in its waters, nor exactly what minerals are there to be found. “We do not currently have the knowledge needed to extract minerals from the seabed in the manner required,” says Næss."

These are the guys whose grid runs on 99% hydropower but they keep drilling for fossile fuels and now rare earths to export them and in addition are still hunting wales.

So to summarise: I'm very happy that there seems to be an eco friendly battery where its main component is the overambundantly availabe sodium. And the short wikipedia entry seems to reflect, that it's a more simple tech.

  • Thoughts on this?

  • Don't know anything avout xorg development although I'm profitting for years off it now. Just wanted to chime in and say that the Arch maintainers put out updates pretty constantly. If the code isn't worked on anymore then what's happening there?

Edit: There is definitely happening stuff with the xorg-server code.

    Edit: Removed chit-chat

  • Seen a documentation about poland recently. A new development there is that the state is conducting military training for every citizen interested. They showed a young women, a hairdresser in her dayjob, taking part in shooting practice. The acceptance of the program within the society was generally good. I would also take part if we had those here, considering what happened in Ukraine, although I'm a pacifist.

  • I just read the movie plot (which seems to differ from the book) on wikipedia and searched in a non-logged-in google for "movie horror two friends dimensions drug dealer jamaican". First result is the wanted movie. What are people searching for that they get such bad results?

  • Nice. I started Ratchet & Clank on PCSX2 yesterday. Holy hell is that Emulator a work of art. The graphical options for the emu make that PS2 game still shine and the gameplay is lotsa fun. Sadly the libretro core for Retroarch/Emulationstation bugged out for me and was slow compared to standalone PCSX2.

Also I'm still puzzled how it's possible there are so many retro-achievements for so many games. I looked up how to implement them and it's really complicated. I totally underestimated how big the retro games scene still is. I really want to get into the netplay thing.

  • Laying hens also are productive way beyond their ancestors with 10-20 eggs, which takes a big toll on their bones. According to a study from the university of Kassel an estimated 23-69% per flock come to the slaughtering line with broken keelbones, wings and legs from egg calcium depletion, rough handling and crammed cages.

Egg factory farming is an all around brutal and despicable industry. Look up what forced molting and maceration means and get your own chickens if you're able or eat scrambled tofu.
