  • All of Southern California really.

My favorite is when dickhead white folks say they want "all the brown people to go back where they came from," without the slightest clue that they were here first, and then they get real pissy when you point that fact out.

  • Might just be a subconscious response to still-active societal social pressures, and your mind reminding you why it's not a good idea. Perhaps on some low level you may still want a certain amount of relation with your peers that's reminiscent of those younger days that you no longer have, but your brain is fighting back to that base instinct.

  • Ah that a bunch of crap. It's the difference that there are a decently informed number of people that are actively speaking up and have been for years that everything hasn't slid to hell long before all this. Yeah, we're in a pretty fucked situation right now, and yes, too many people are still blindly going along with it, but it would be a much more dire situation if we didn't have the information gleaned from that era.

  • The difference there though is that those devices are point to point, not broadcast/receive. Iirc there are different rules in place for direct line of sight devices, and misuse will land you a meeting with the FCC, hence why the more powerful variants require a license.

  • But, the key takeaway there is that those portions of the spectrum where mobile bands are are restricted to those uses. 2.4 and 5 are "free bands," in which any device can use them (assuming compliance with FCC part 15 in the US). If I built a device and operated it at say 4.3GHz, I'd get in big trouble once found.

  • I've actually been eyeing EE programs and probably will pursue one at some point as I'm fascinated with larger infrastructure and larger power systems. A few years ago I was actually chasing a position with our local POCO for an engineering spot but was shot down due to lack of degree (even though the person they hired came from water and has a civil degree, and apparently is a complete moron). The issue I have now is finding a reputable online program as I live in the mountains and the closest school that has such a program is two hours away, and the last thing I want to do is move into a denser populated area. So I dunno, I'm alright for now but definitely am keeping eyes open.

  • At this point I have no clue. I'm an electrician with my own shop, and we do well, but damn is it tough on the body. I've been beginning to think of what to do next, but nothing's really grabbing me, especially to keep my income where it's at. And yeah, that's a good reason to avoid those hyper corporate environments, no thanks haha.

  • I have a couple friends that are software devs, and they echo the exact same sentiment. We've bonded over computers over the years, and they all wish they'd chosen a different career path at times because there are so many morons, and typically the morons are the worst devs out there.

  • Just checked my DW and yup, sure enough, it is connected to the hot line. I was thinking of the refer line. I'll be honest I never really put much thought into it and now I feel silly.

I actually am American lol. I'm an electrician by trade, so I was thinking more in terms of the equipment on board of the DW itself, but this is much more logical now that I think about it. I let plumbers do their thing and avoid installing/servicing appliances for customers (although I did just pull a 24" hair snake out of my shower drain this morning, smelled wonderful).

  • I'm assuming dishwashers have their own water heater (if at all) since you typically only connect to the cold supply line? And they can't be that powerful as they are fed from a regular 120v line and only draw maybe 7-10 amps, which includes the jet pump.

    Edit: I assumed wrong
